I for one really enjot the "look at this one on Ebay" threads. Having bought mine on Ebay, and getting totally SCREWED in the process, I can only say I wish I had found this site and these types of threads before my purchase.

I think I am not alone in my thoughts, and maybe, just maybe, these types of threads have saved others some of the misery I have endured.

I had nothing but good luck on Ebay for years, including 2 other cars and a Harley. While I knew it was a roll of the dice, I didnt expect to deal with the total misrepresentation that rolled into Cincinnati via Oregon at considerable expense I might add.

I for one, say keep it up, pick them apart, hype them up. It is a learning process that others just might benefit from.

Thank you! I find this post refreshing and in the spirit of what this site does best. I respect the opinions of anyone who takes the time to post and even if I don't agree with them, I have a choice. I can reply with my point of view or I can keep my opinions to myself and quietly agree or disagree. The day will never come that I won't state what I believe, even if it is only a gut feeling that I am willing to share with others if so inclined. As far as protecting the feelings of a thin skinned seller on Ebay, the thought never crosses my mind. Anything advertised and listed in a public venue is fair game for scrutiny by all. Many observations are made that would otherwise be overlooked if we were only concerned with upping the values of our cars and were afraid of speaking our minds. Nobody, singularly or the combined lot of us can artificially control market values. I sure don't need anyone to tell me when and how to speak, unless I'm violating the forum rules. Recently I was asked my opinion of a Z listed on Ebay, so I gave my best evaluation and started a thread to get other opinions. During the course of the auction I traded emails with the seller and asked questions. I wasn't happy with the answers given as the seller had a way of answering without telling you anything. I asked if it was a matching numbers car because it did not specifically state it was. He had what could be viewed as a valid excuse for not knowing the answer. He was not in the same location as the car. He told me to assume NOT and if the numbers did match...BONUS. But he did not volunteer this information with the other bidders, nor was the numbers matching status verified in the next two auctions that ensued after it failed to sell. And I did try to find out. Hopefully by being critical of this seller and sharing my gut feelings so others would think to question and act on the answers they recieve, someone was saved the grief of paying more than they should for a non numbers matching car. I agree, hash them over for all it's worth and get the facts, opinions and even gut feelings out there. A potential buyer reading our posts can then sift through it all, ask the crucial questions and make their own minds up.

The thing I like about E-Bay is it pushes the price of our cars up. As for price on this car, who knows? There is a very nice 1978 on Craigslist out here in Portland for $8000.00. It has been on there awhile. If I had my choice I know what I would do. You can do alot to a car for another "few" thousand dollars. :) I guess in my opinion only alot of these e-bay cars are overpriced. And they always seem to special or unique in some way or another. There are still quite a few cars around that can be purchased for a whole lot less. Parts as well. They just require more work than some of the others. In my opinion thats what it is all about. Maybe this is a nice car, but its alot more money than I have. Also the sellers rating is a little scary.

Very interesting to compare these two 280Z's even though they would both attract quite different types of buyers.

27K vs 83K mile

5spd. vs A/T

constant use vs sitting for 20 years not used

perfect body vs a body with damage/small spot of rust and needing refreshing

running vs non-running???

Ohio vs California

All original documentation vs ?????

To an extent it's a show car vs a project car.... we'll have to see what the final prices for both are, before we can decide which offers the most value for the money paid...

FWIW,

I was thinking the same thing....will the California car benefit from the Ohio car going for so much even though there are so many contrasts in the two cars? The California is very interesting.

beware the bidder! it's not unusual for "bidders" to take a price up for a sellor to make it look wanted. they then wait for an unknowledgeable bidder to jump in and pay the big price. many bids early and then nothing is often a sign of this.

if it checks out - its worth every penny of $15K. I'm not sure it would bring $18K with that mileage - but it wouldn't hurt to buy it at $18K if its the 280Z you always wanted.

Agreed - the Dealer should sell at $15K... or even $14,500.00...

FWIW,

Carl B.
