Cutlass372 Posted March 2, 2008 Share #1 Posted March 2, 2008 http://good-times.webshots.com/album/562590375hsIsRE Page 3-4 for pics from my house. Went to pick this car up yesterday in Garfield, NJ (about and hour and a half from me). Me and my dad loaded the car onto our car trailer with ease and made it home safe. Today I scrubbed and vaccuumed the inside of the car and took it around the block. It has a few rust issues, but nothing real crazy. The frame rails, battery area, floor, and rear area are all solid. The rockers and some of the hatch sill need some replacing though. The paint is trashed and it looks like it was painted with a paint brush. I wanna get some good suspension on the car, but i haven't decided what kind yet. Either tokico illuminas and some good lowering springs or a set of nice coilovers. I like the idea of coilovers because wheel fitment isn't really and issue where it is with the springs and struts. I wanna run something like a 17X9ish wheel. Overall I like the car, it just needs some tuning up and alittle patching. I wanna turn it into a track/daily driver car. What are you guys suggestions on going about doing this? What would make this car a killer on the street and track. As for the motor, at some point I would like to swap in a L28ET and upgrade that. What should I do first? . 240znz Posted March 2, 2008 Share #6 Posted March 2, 2008 Good luck with the car. Remember that the search function on this site is your best friend.Your first job should be to change the brake fluid and check the brakes. No good if it doesn't stop. Before you decide to do any altering of the car, drive it, a lot. You'll get a better feel for what you need to change first. Read as much as you can on here and other sites to get an idea of what you are in for. Do you realise just how much money you will need to turn it into a track/daily driver? A L28ET conversion will not be cheap. You may be better off with a rebuilt L28 on re-jetted SU's. It's all in the planning. Make a itemised list of what you think you want to do. i.e lowering springs, new shocks, new bushes (rubber or poly), upgrade sway bars, brake upgrade, gearbox upgrade, diff ration change, LSD, wheels, tyres, ignition upgrade, seat upgrade, head work, cage etc. For each upgrade put a realistic cost against it. Then you may have a better idea of each items priority. With a little thinking you'll be a good position not to waste money on things that are not needed. e.g new 17's look nice but for the money spent on them and the new rubber, you could complete several mods that make a real difference, not just cosmetic.Just make it safe, don't cut corners on safety as you are a long time dead. Blue Meanie Posted March 2, 2008 Share #7 Posted March 2, 2008 Link works now.She definitely needs some love, but congratulations and welcome to the family Cutlass. As 240znz mentioned you really need to get it in general running order and drive it a lot. She will tell you a lot, if you will just listen. BTW, You need to change your screen name, unless you are a pirate of course. In that case "Aye, congratulations and welcome t' the family. Ye'll ne'er get me buried booty me bucco!" 240znz Posted March 2, 2008 Share #9 Posted March 2, 2008 It has cancer. I'd get it up in the air and have a good poke around with a flat blade screwdriver. Be prepared for the worst and then it can only get better. Assess what you find and put a dollar value against it before shelling out on what could be done cheaper on a rust free example. Cutlass372 Posted March 2, 2008 Author Share #10 Posted March 2, 2008 I also own a 72 Cutlass as well, thats why I made this name. But yeah, it needs a good amount of work but its not awful. I could drive it how it is if I really wanted. The front resevoir in the MC is dry so I guess I need to check that out or add some more fluid. The tranny is real hard to get into gear so im probably going to need a new tranny anyway.

240znz Posted March 2, 2008 Share #12 Posted March 2, 2008 The second link works better. No fluid in the MC = no brakes, air in the lines, spongy brake pedal. Sort out the brakes before you dirve it again.Take off the scuff plates (they have DATSUN stamped on them) on the door threshold, lift the door to body rubber seal and assess the state of the seams.Just remember that the S30 is a unibody and therefore everything is important. What are the floors like?
