Posted March 3, 200817 yr comment_239211 My buddy bought a '77 280 that came with Libre wheels on it. He didn't like them, so he bought new 17" wheels and tires. I bought the Libre's from him (that also had new tires on them) and had them cleaned up and put them on my '71. They replaced the 4-spoke '78 mags I've had on it since '93. Now I'm period-correct. March 3, 200817 yr comment_239224 That's what I need...more buddies with bad taste!! It was awfully noble of you to take them off his hands. Your a real Prince and were jealous!! Seriously, Libres are on my period correct top five list and they look great on your car! March 3, 200817 yr comment_239266 Wow! That was a score. Libres are my absolute favorite wheels on 240z's. My previous Z, (early 1990's), was a white 71 with Libre's. Great wheels. March 3, 200817 yr comment_239268 I've always liked Libre's. And they look great on your car but aren't the '4-spoke '78 mags' also period-correct? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/27236-libres/#findComment-239268 Share on other sites
March 3, 200817 yr comment_239273 I've always liked Libre's. And they look great on your car but aren't the '4-spoke '78 mags' also period-correct?Yes, Stephen, the four spoke wheels (like yours) are period-correct, more or less. They were offered on S30s as a factory option in other markets, and were (in theory, at least) available via the parts department after purchase here in North America.I like the four spoke mags, and know of a set I could get reasonably affordably. But I keep waffling because period-correct isn't quite enough. When I imagine my red car with those on it, it seems OK, but not quite the look I want. And that's the problem. I'm pretty certain that the four spoke aren't what I'm after, and (even though I like them a lot) neither are Libres. But I really don't know yet what it is that I do want. I can only hope I'll know it when I see it. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/27236-libres/#findComment-239273 Share on other sites
March 3, 200817 yr comment_239281 Really like the four spoke Libre's ! Took a lot of bead blasting, cleaning and bakeing to remove the original brake dust embedded in the metal. The powder coating color matching to the car really made them a standout set of wheels. Would not have any other!! See my gallery for a closeup of the wheels on Silver Bullet 240Z.Ken Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/27236-libres/#findComment-239281 Share on other sites
