How much would you pay for a 70-73 JDM Fairlady Z, thats already here in the US... Lets say an overall 7 out of 10?

and yes i know there is allot of variables to consider but just give me your estimate.... i'm not asking for the a rocket scientist's guess here.

You are asking for a palmreader guess. The standard economic answer stands: "It depends."

A 7/10 to you might be a 4/10 or a 9/10 for those of us with several decades of and more than 10 Zs experience under our belts. The only way to answer your question is a useless answer, somewhere between $500 and $30,000.

There are several Fairlady mechanical parts that you would have a terrible time replacing here in the states, the steering rack for one, and there are a few more before you get to the trim...there are just too many variables to give you a valid off the cuff estimate because of the rarity of the car and more importantly, certian parts. Simply the investment in time and money to source those parts would affect the price of the car becuase they could well dictate the restoration/modification path it would have to follow relative to the cost of the project.

It is terrific that you have the enthusiasm to ask about such a project, but it is much like asking how much rust is there in any given Z. You won't know until you investigate further.

My answer to your question is the same as Will's.

Do you have photos of the Z that you're looking at? If so, post them here and we will help you dissect the car and come up with a reasonable offer, and also help point out any potential things that you might want to be aware of before purchasing the vehicle.

Ours took 1st in Class at the Portland Roadster Show.

It's currently valued somewhere around $20K, before the win.

It has been appraised at the show and we'll know in a couple of days.

I've probably $15k in the car, including the $6,750 paid 30 years ago ... and $6K in the paint.

If it went to Barrett-Jackson auction .... sky is the limit.

If you would like some info on these cars we have a pretty good idea about ours having done a lot of research.

For instance, it is an "Z-L" model, the rally version offered for JDM ... about 2660 made in 1971 ... and what makes it an "L"? That's the interesting part ...

I think that the "L" was Luxury... it had more "Standard Equipment".

OPTIONS:

Just about every "option" offered on the Fairlady and Fairlady Z-L at the Factory Outlets in Japan, were matched by Nissan Port Installed or Dealer Installed Options and/or Aftermarket Equipment here in the States:

Dual Exhaust

5spd.

Vinyl Top

Racing Strip

Bumper Over-Rider

Headlight Covers

Roll Bar

Rear Spoiler

Assistant Footrest

FM Pack

A/C

Dealers here in the States were prohibited, by law, from changing any items related to the U.S. Emissions Standards. However the law did not prevent customers from making whatever changes they wanted in 49 of the 50 U.S. States and Canada.

Although it doesn't seem to have been listed by Alan or Kats - I'm not sure about full carpet being Standard on the Z-L. ???? I could have missed it along the way.

FWIW,

Carl B.

I don't mean to stray the topic off topic,

but I'm curious as to why the Fairlady pictured has one yellow front bulb and one clear?

The two road lights hanging below the front bumper are 1) a Carello driving beam (clear lens) and a Carello Fog Beam (the yellow lens). Italian driving lights; it had two Carello 6" driving spots on it when purchased by us 30 years ago. They long ago self-destructed so we got two NOS Carellos to replace.

Both turn signal lens on the car are the original JDM amber lens.

".....the rally version......" ?

Where did you get that from? I think you have your wires crossed slightly........

From the man at ZTherapy who's wife collects Nissan paper. He said it was an L type which was the rally option, which explained the rally clock and Type A 5-speed ...

It been interesting trying to get info on the car; we've had just about every possible idea tossed out from all over the world. The L seemed to be the most logical.

Would love to learn more about the car. Just located the name of the original US owner!

Very much fun!

And thank you all for your great information!!!!!
