September 6, 200222 yr comment_15036 I am just abaut to pull my 4.38 rear out and slap something smaller in. I installed the 4.38 before learning exactly what the benefits or losses are, only to find out that the new rear that steep was too mutch for my aplication. So off it goes and if you want it let me know. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/2734-ring-and-pinion/#findComment-15036 Share on other sites
September 10, 200222 yr comment_15386 As I mentioned in my previous post out came the 4.38 and back in went a 3.36 It seemes the car is a bit happier with the combo of 79 five speed and 3.36 rear ( longer duration for first and second gears, and more top end speed). So if anyone would like the 4.38 rear end or just the ring and pinion(saves on shipping cost I suppose) just let me know.Question. What is all the hubub abaut with the 4.11, 4.38 or the 3.9? As I've seen thrugh my own experiace those rear ends steal from your first and second gears and take from top speed as well.If you can get to 80mph + in the first three gears, exellerating in fourth gear does not seem that crucial ( at least not on the street ).macimo83@hotmail.com Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/2734-ring-and-pinion/#findComment-15386 Share on other sites
September 10, 200222 yr comment_15390 These are very good ratios for road racing especially. One of the biggest advantages you can have is getting the jump on someone coming out of a corner. I've been running 4.11 and even with a less than killer engine, I can out power many cars in the corners.I agree that they may be a bit much for the street. September 11, 200222 yr comment_15432 As long as were on the subject, I've been looking for a 3.9 R-180 gearset for quite a while now. I found new gears for $428. If a used set is unavailabe, guess Ill have to bite the bullet. To be exact, 3.9 gears with a 115mm ID ring gear. Thanks.Phred Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/2734-ring-and-pinion/#findComment-15432 Share on other sites
