Posted March 12, 200817 yr comment_240324 I have been reading these posts and it is a wealth of information. I am looking to buy a 71 240Z in Seattle Friday. It looks great with the subtle z fender flares, rebuit e31 head, 6 in 1 header, aluminized exhaust, mallory dist, bored out 50 over with konig springs, HID headlights and PIAA driving lights. Sounds almost too good to be true for $6500. What are your thoughts? I am not scared as hell of rust in the floor boards reading from what everyone has said. The owner has only had it for 8 months and is a home builder and is need of the cash. He says the only rust is on the back hatch where it pools under the paint. He also said that it smells of fuel which I am thinking is a filler hose most likely since he thought it a recent issue and he broke the e-brake cable. I don't know where to find the e-brake cable do you have any ideas?Dave Irwin lives right next to this guy and I am buying his headlight relay to help with the electrical issues and I know the places to look for rust other than I don't know if I will be able to pull the carpet back to see if the tarmat is there or not. It seems like the seller is straight up and a solid guy but he doesn't know z's and now I wondering if there is rust if this is a great deal or should a start with a clunker and build is from scratch. I don't have the space and time but I am willing to pay for it either way. March 12, 200817 yr comment_240386 Nathan, is a red Z with the black 240 stripes on the lower door/fenders? If it is, it's hard to tell from the couple of night photos I've seen....Good luck and hope it pans out.... March 12, 200817 yr Author comment_240397 Yes it is the one you are seeing on craigslist. It has the black racing strip down the middle and the black 240z on the bottom doors. The paint is obviously been done so I am hoping much of the rust has been addressed. The owner says the only rust he could find was a 2 inch patch on the rear hatch by the license plate. But reading everyone saying the Z's prone for rust has me a little concerned. It looks great to me but there has been a lot of recent engine work and it seems priced well but hasn't sold in 3 weeks. Do you know this car or guy? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/27340-new-71-240z-ownerpossibly/#findComment-240397 Share on other sites
March 13, 200817 yr comment_240410 Try and take it to a shop with a hoist so you can get it up in the air to view the underneath. It's well worth poking about under there as it will give you and Dave a good idea of the overall condition. March 13, 200817 yr comment_240436 Nathan sorry, but I do not know the guy, nor have I seen the car in person. I have only seen the craigslist add for the last three weeks. You're right it does look to have a lot of engine mods. I wonder what methods the owner used to made the finder flares. The car looks clean from the photos listed, but we all know photos can be deceiving. The car does look to have had a lot of work done to it....You should really go over this car good, especially for the 6.5k asking price....
