austex Posted March 12, 2008 Share #1 Posted March 12, 2008 So I replaced the horn relay, and still no horn. Works when I run juice through the wire going to the horn, so I guess that's a good sign. Maybe it's something at the steering wheel end? Here's some pics. I have everything (I'm assuming) but I'm wondering if anything's supposed to go in those other holes. Anything supposed to go in those other holes? Side view with green/black wire that goes to the relay, as far as I can tell. Does anything look wrong or out of place? EScanlon Posted March 13, 2008 Share #2 Posted March 13, 2008 It looks like you're missing the wire from the contact wiper plate to the front of the steering wheel which would connect to the horn mechanism there.IIRC it should be coming through the steering wheel through the hole at the 12:00 position and have a small spade connector on it's end that connects to the phenolic plate on the horn mechanism. For check purposes, with a wire, ground that brass wipe contact on the back of the steering wheel. The horn should blow. If it does, the only part missing is the horn mechanism at the steering wheel.HTHE
Nissanman Posted March 13, 2008 Share #3 Posted March 13, 2008 Well, that copper wiper contact is the "hot" wire to the horn is it not? When you earth that wire the horn should operate. The horn pad should have a metal ring on it with a series of contacts on it.These should touch the contact plate that the wiper is touching, only on the steering wheel side where the horn button is.However there should be a small jumper wire from an earth terminal on the column to the contact plate on the horn button to provide the earth required to energise the horn relay.NB.pipped at the post.....again!
