That should be spelt QANTAS - its and Australian domestic/international airline. And no, there should not be a 'U' after the Q because the name is an abbreviation of "Queensland And Northern Territory Air Service".

You're RIGHT! there is no 'U'! I have a vintage Australian travel poster hanging over the toilet in my bathroom and I have stood there...well...quite often....and read that a million times and never realized there was no 'U'. Interesting. Great trivia question.
