when you drive your Z into a Nissan dealer (i occasionally do for an oil change) and they don't even know what kind of car it is. I mean some of the salesmen weren't even born yet when the 280zs came into the market. They do give lots of compliments though, but still look befuddled.LOL

It goes w/o saying that here in Red Sox country, we NEVER see any S30's. Maybe an occasional ZX, but I haven't seen a pre-78 car on the road in about 10 years, maybe more. I don't think I've seen a pre-78 Z on the road in my hometown (population 60,000) in at least 15 - 20 years.

Here in Walla Walla Washington, I never see another 240z. 2 or 3 280's and a few zx's. mostly parked, gathering rust and dust. This fall at our "Wheeling Walla Walla" car show there was 350 cars on display. Not one Z of any type. This fall, I think I'll park my Z next to the 30 plus corvett's that make the show.

I remember the days where people would stare at my 240, but now when I take it out, people don't even seem to notice it or even care about it. People used to walk up and ask questions. Now, they don't even give it a second glance for some reason.

There is only one other in town of similar vintage (78 or so 280) which is in pretty good shape. I have meant to stop by and talk to the guy that drives it. It's pretty clean but he parks it out on the street (seems like a shame). At least the weather here gets along with them pretty well

....Funny, as the years have gone by I get more and more compliments on my car.

Early Z-Cars are pretty rare in my neck of the woods (south-central Pennsylvania). Rust has devoured most of them, but there are still some out there. They come out in nice weather. I see more of them on the Interstates 'passing through' than I do around where I live. People in my age range (50+) recognize them as Datsuns; those younger have few clues as to what they are, and often guess Porsche (not really flattering in my opinion, anyway).... I guess it's like me trying to tell the difference between a Stutz Bearcat and a Bentley 3-Litre..... My father could do it at a distance... not me, so I shouldn't expect it of the younger generations. I do find that the younger folks are often very interested to learn about and appreciate the 240Z for what they are (except for the ricers that just want to make noise and race everything with four or fewer wheels).

Snag Point, I have had my car in the local chamber of commerce show the last 3 years. There are usually 350 cars in the show. The first 2 years I entered they took my voting bucket away because they said that Japanise cars did not qualify for voting, those years I was the only foreign car. Last year I was one of 9 foreign cars so they let people vote for a best in class for foreign cars, I lost to a 72 VW bug convertible that was totally restored. Aren't car show fun when you are the only one of a kind in the show, you get a lot of people looking and asking questions.

When you drive your Z into a Nissan dealer and they don't even know what kind of car it is.

I took the S130 to the dealership to inquire about getting a new handbrake cable.

They asked for the VIN, which I recited from memory, and they told me I had it wrong. It was not nearly long enough. I explained the VIN situation, and had to eventually pull the car around so they could see it for themselves.

Funny, sad, and very annoying.

Only one technician from the bays knew what the car was...

Brian (BRE-240z) and any other WNC Z owners, if you go to Anderson Nissan ask for the tech with the last name Anderson (no relation to the dealer). He knows his Z cars.

Another thing I'm really surprised at is the number of people that see my Z and come over and say that they had a Z years ago, or a friend, uncle or whatever. They always smile and say how they loved that Z way back when, and then tell me how much they like seeing my Z around town. Last month I had 3 sheriff's cars and a state patrol behind my Z on the side of the road with their lights flashing. I would have paid good $$$ to have had a picture.

Oh the fun I could have had with that picture. But the true story is that I was 1st on scene at a motorcycle wreck and enforcement parked just behind my car. I don't dare speed cuz they know my Z from the fire dept calls.

My best friend had the first Z I ever drove. it was a 78 280. we were in high school and he had to pick up his 50 chevy P/U from the shop. I followed him home in the Z. right before we got to his house there was a long straight away I pass him at about 125mph he was pissed,I was in love!! wanted one since that day. took years to get here, that was in 87. he can,t wait to see mine.I call and tell him all the time what I,m doing to mine.
