Low Mileage 72 240Z on Ebay

Looks like mine might one day.

But even as a novice I can see small issues with it, to me it looks like a dealer prep job to make it look nice but probably still needs work underneath.

Careful:nervous: some here don't like when you shred ebay cars. I for one agree with you on this, I saw so many things that were flags to me. However if this guy gets his price I feel real good for when I put my car up for sale.

Not digging into the car, it looks pretty sharp and it is in some great (if rather eclectic) company.

Besides the passenger side mirror, carpet, and dash cap (all reversible) it looks pretty nice and straightforward -great paint, minimal body line deviance (driver side hood, but just a tiny little bit).

If it is in as good of shape as they claim, that may not be a bad price, especially considering the location: pretty much dead center of the rust belt.

Here's the link to the company website:

LOL I hope I am safe

Anything I see wrong is because of this site and Carl :)

6 months ago I would have seen nothing wrong with it, but guess it is worth what the buyer wants to pay for it

The Buy-It-Now is $15,900.00 - - - and "IF" it checks out underneath, and has a solid body it is most likely worth that... A lot depends on the quality of the repaint... Street mod'ed a bit, but $16K is a reasonable price for a clean 240-Z in that area of the Country.

I know we've seen this car at some point in the not too distant past...

If someone lives in that area - go inspect the car carefully and let us know what it is really like....

The ad doesn't give any information on this car, just general reference to the Z. The pictures do show flaws present, but they are undoubtedly due to difficulty in trying to source and properly install parts as well as the cost of doing same. He does however encourage people to call.

At this point in time, he has 35 vehicles up for auction, and some very unique and rarely seen vehicles in that collection.

David (Montezuma), it isn't the comments on the vehicles per se that is objectionable, it's the assumption of the seller's intent to defraud criminally. Most people are just doing what they can to maximize their profit. Not all are intentionally being deceitful.

I do concur with that point of view. I have said it here before I comment because I someday want to sell my 73 and by pointing the obvious flaws by myself and others I will not make the same mistakes and will get the most for my car. I see it as VERY constructive criticism. I bought a car from a guy who had NO idea of the flaws of his car, he was in no way trying to defraud but when I got his car I was totally disappointed. I however never conveyed to the seller my disappointment....I just fixed the flaws and moved on with it....although I am prone to randomly complain from time to time.

Wow, alot of pics, looks like done profressionaly. They are not trying to hide anything cosmetically. Any one can see the things that a ZCCA judge would deduct in a car show which I found out in Daytona this year when I showed mine in the daily driver class 72 240. It was a learning experiance for me. It's a very good looking car and I'm glad to see the $ interest in it, that makes me feel better about mine not that I want to sell it.

The question I have for the experts out there ie Carl and others is, do you think this car not considering the mileage would bring in a higher price if it was restored to as close to oringinal stock or with all the modifications it has. Just wondering.

Original stock will usually bring more interest from buyers that are willing to spend the money up front, so they will usually sell for more to begin with. If a buyer really cares about the car being "stock" but not fanatically pure stock - then things like mag wheels or a change in the steering wheel won't throw them off too much.

This car has too many things to attract someone that wants to buy a low mileage "stock" example. It just wouldn't interest them... seats are wrong, dash cap, carpet is wrong, carb's and the engine bay need a lot of attention - a lot more than should be needed on a 32K mile example.. door panels have screws in them that shouldn't be there.

It would take an additional $5K and some work to bring this car back to what the typical "Stock" buyer would want his car to look like... So they would just keep looking until they found a car that was close to Stock to begin with - even if it cost $18K it would be ready to drive/enjoy and still less money than the $16K they want, plus the additional $5K it needs..

All the above said with the full realization that there are no absolutes in the 240-Z market today.. I'd also want to go over that car with a fine tooth comb, before paying $16K... I don't like the fact that there is no real description of this specific car, nor any real clear photo's showing details that are important to any 240-Z buyer...

FWIW,

Carl B.

This 73 is every bit as nice - even nicer in fact... and the bidding is at a silly $4,500.00 or so... most likely honest bids... everyone is waiting until the last few seconds to put their real bids in...

Where the 72 that the Dealer has - has been bid up to $10,500.00 at this point - wonder who is bidding it up that high this soon????

Will be interesting to see how these two end up.... miles isn't all that different 85K vs 32K... on a 240-Z you can't tell the difference anyway... I think the 73 would be a better value..

FWIW,

Carl B.
