My New Cold Air Intake

I'm just about finished making my own Cold Air Intake for my 1975 280z. I used some Spectre tubing I got from Autozone and a K&N filter I got from Advance Auto Parts. I think it looks pretty good. I had to cut some of the tubing (which is plastic) in order for it to fit properly. It also took some boiling of the stock AFM rubber and soapy water in order to get it to fit. Here is a pic. I'm still working on a bracket in order for it to stay put. I'm thinking of strapping it down to where the stock airbox would latch onto.

Not bad for $50 bucks. What do you think?

Looks nice! Notice any differences with it? And get a fan shroud on that thing!

I haven't really had a chance to drive it much, but it does seem to have a little better throttle response.

I think the stock exhaust needs to be replaced before I really notice any changes.

Fan Shroud...haha. Yes one of the many items on my wish list. I've only had the Z for a couple weeks.

I did this one a couple of years ago out of aluminum. Don't care much for the ones that are commercially available. I don't recall the size but it fits easily into the AFM boot. As I recall, my cost was about the same.

I have one on my 280 but I lengthened it a tad bit because I've got an MSA body kit I'm putting on so it will be right where the front grill of the body kit is. Maybe little higher.

Mine doesn't quite make it to the middle of the grill but its definately far enough out where its not behind the signal light.

I didn't mean for the pic to be that big. I just linked it to imageshack.us. It was the size of the actual photo. i didn't resize it.

The image is hosted offsite (in this case by imageshack) so classiczars.com doesn't even know or care about the size of the image. Your browser downloads a page from this site, parses the html, finds a link to a jpeg, downloads it and only then decides "wow, this sucker is 1600x1200, let me widen everything to fit even if I have to add a scrollbar at the bottom."

Mine is 'only' 1024x768.

Nah, even 1024x768 is too big. I think that 800x600 is the biggest you can go without stretching the page. I didn't resize mine because the page was already strecthed. One thing for sure, you can really see the detail in your picture!

Did you ever think about straping the intake down below where the stock airbox sits?
