Jim Coffey contacted Banzai some time back about the part and their price...bottom line, they don't charge what's on the web-page, and IIRC the difference was significant. His log on is A7DZ if you want to run a search for his comments.

Banzai's website is seldom updated. Don't hink there has been an update at all in the 2 1/2 years I've been into Zs. Don't trust the prices you see there, or availability of any item you see there. I recall someone some months back saying the Banzai no longer had the part in question available at all, at any price.

You can try to find someone willing to cut a rust free one from a car being parted out. They turn up on Ebay once in a while also. That's where I got this rust free one for $9.99 plus shipping not long ago.

One big word of caution there, the main problem with that hatch piece is that the spot weld join to the vertical tail-light mount metal is usually just caulked and as a result a TON of rust hides in the space between the metals. Additionally, the caulked seam is on the underside of the piece and behind the tail-light finishers and is often overlooked and ignored.

I've seen "rust-free" actually be "rust hidden under a thin metal skin".

Enrique, excellent point, I find that to be the case with almost every square inch of hidden metal surface on these cars. I have turned my car inside out eliminating as much rust as possible. Every pinchweld and boxed in cavity and layered section had rust present. It is the nature of the beast. Thanks for bringing that point up for those that don't realize it. I am very familiar with the problem. Sometimes the sealer was more of a detriment than a solution, holding moisture captive in areas that are sight unseen until rust breaks out. A used hatch panel like I have pictured should be seperated and all rust removed before using. There will be be at least some rust present no matter how good it appears on the surface. Still beats paying outrageous prices for simple stampings. By getting one from a "rust free" parts car such as this, you will also get the underlying piece with it. If you need the top piece, odds are you need the underlying piece also.

Thanks for the info.... I emailed Zedd findings last week and have had no reply, so either he has none or is not intrested in selling one? Z specialist in Snohomish not too far from me but the price for that part is way out of line... I thought they would be much cheaper.... it a pretty basic part. I may just make it myself.

I sold the new genuine Nissan repair panel I had, it must have been one of the last that Courtesy Nissan sold. I had it for over two years for my abandoned old project (now parts car), but the new project doesn't need one. I made a comment that they had increased in price considerably if you can find them and someone flamed me for the price I thought they were now. The person who bought it from me made me an offer of $200 without any reservations. He had searched for a long time without luck in finding one. Needless to say I sold that piece and was able to buy a nice slightly used three core radiator (with a few bucks left over) which looks great with my original metal fan shroud. I think all parties made out well with the deal. Anyway sorry to rant, just have a slight resentment about being jumped on one time. I wish I would have taken the time to cut a few of these out of cars I know have since gone to the crusher, since I know they are a hard piece to find new now. Good luck and I'll keep an eye out I live just south of B.C., about five miles from Osoyoos in the Okanogan (Okanagan) Valley.
