I emailed Charlie about another part a few weeks ago and he mentioned that he was going on vacation for the month of March but should be back by April 1. So dont fret if you havent heard from him yet.

As far as that part goes. I searched far and wide for that part and came up with nothing. Banzai said they dont make that part anymore and yes Z man is a little high. I just went in another direction on my 240z and got some POR15 body filler and rust converter and went over that area very very carefully. I poked and prodded and basically rebuilt that area or as best i could. It's much better than it was and it seems very firm. Got underneath all the caulked part and tore all that our and rebuilt it with more Por15 filler. Hardens like stone and it looks pretty good.

Mine is beyond saving... rusted out... ironically the rest of the car seems pretty good, some dents at the lower rear panel.... I guess I will be finding out if it is as good as it looks. I purchased the car 2 weeks ago it is a early 72. It was sitting for 10 years and not running... I got it running now but still need to balance the carbs, but that will waite till the new to me 200r/3.90/disk brake rear end is installed and the front brakes overhauled, all the bushing are going to be replaced too ... they are quite worn. New coil over are also planned...

I would encourage you to do so. It is a fairly simple piece, and you have nothing to lose by trying. You may surprise yourself and find you have a natural knack for hand shaping metal. A friend of mine who didn't have a lick of metal forming experience started out with simple pieces such as this and is a self taught "Master" today. Of course, the more advanced you become, it's like every other automotive dicipline...there is always another piece of equipment you need/want. Good luck if you attempt it.

I have made many sheet metal parts mostly for old chevelles I use to build... so no problems. Just less time consuming to be able to purchase the piece. If I don't find one at a reasonable price, I have access to sheet metal equiptment at work. Hmm, get paid to make my own parts, what a concept.

I wish I would have taken the time to cut a few of these out of cars I know have since gone to the crusher, since I know they are a hard piece to find new now.

Note to self: After I cut the roof off, remember to cut this piece out of the yellow car's shell prior to hauling the remains to the crusher...

Zman is very proud of his parts, and prices them that way. Same for service work. They do good work, but you WILL pay a premium for it--more than it's worth.

I can confirm that Charlie of ZeddFinding is on vacation...and probably at the 19th hole of whatever golf course at about this time of day.

There is another fellow just outside of Montreal who sells used z parts http://www.smokin-geez.com/ I have no idea if he might have a hatch valence panel, and I have not purchased anything from him to date.

FWIW, I was able to find a guy with a parts car who cut it out and shipped it to me. Cost was $85. It's welded in now and the install looks great.

However, this seller normally sets a pretty high reserve, so they may be asking a lot for it.
