Our Dog Died Today

Her name was Daisy.

She got hit today by a car while crossing the street. The dude drove off, so I ran inside to get my keys and tracked them down. Yelled at them for a minute or so and got their license plate number just increase because they were unwilling to give any of their information. So I just went ahead and got all of it instead, stupid people.

Anyways.

Raced her to the vet and after about an hour they put her to sleep.

Internal bleeding, lungs were collapsing and her left leg would have been cut off. She was pretty messed up. She did really good through the pain though and was being a trooper through it all. Lasted for about 2 hours after the strike.

Sucks she had to go. I never really liked her until recently. She was only about a year old, but once she got out of her puppy days she was a lot cooler dog.

I am really sorry to hear about your loss, it has been a tough year for us too, as we lost our beloved Great Dane, Jake late in February.

He was eleven and a half which is a long time for a Great Dane. A bone spur in his back caused him to loose feeling in his back legs. Slowly the muscles in his back legs atrophied, and it got to the point where he could not get up any more. So it was time....

We were lucky and able to say goodbye, I am sure your situation is much more difficult to cope with a driver who just kept going. I hope that you are able to deal with this guy that hit your dog and was too much of a coward to stop.

Again, sorry to hear about this.

Sorry for your loss.

Contact the police dept, and see if they can do anything. If not, at leas the dept. of licensing and inquire as to the license plate information. With that in hand, file a lawsuit in small claims court for the vet bill.

Very sorry to hear about your loss.

For us, pets are "members of the family" and it really hurts when they go... Out last cat lasted 16-1/2 years and I'm not ashamed to say I cried like a baby on that last trip to the vet.

Yeah, I got the tag and am going to find out where they live. Not really going to small claims court. That is more so my mom's decision, and I know that she won't. But I do want to at least know where they live.

I just hope that I remember the tag correctly.

But yea, the animals are always a part of the family here. They are outside dogs, but when the weather is too hot, or too cold and every night they come inside. Sometimes I let one of them sleep with me too.

Sucks about the cat. We had a cat that was about 14 when it died. That sucked because one day I came home from school. Noticed that the cat wasn't around. Trying calling my mom a few times but no pick up. Then when she comes home she had him in a box.

He got some kind of disease/sickness that was killing him, so my mom put him down.

This year has been a crazy year for me. I can usually tell from day 1 of a new year how things are going to be for the rest of it. So far things are about in line still. School and job hunting has been very difficult this year. Dog died just now, and even at the beginning on this new year my Grandma died.

Still got a crazy year a head of me/us.

Red Dog,

I know just how you feel. Two years ago, my little sheltie, Prissy, had to be put down because of kidney failure. My wife and I stayed with her as she passed and we cried. Coming home, I live in the country, I was going up my half mile driveway and my neighbor's Lab ran out of the tall grass in front of me and I ran over him. I had just lost my dog not 30 minutes before and here I've hit someone else's dog. He ran into the grass but didn't get far and couldn't breath. I stayed with him to comfort him as he passed. I had my wife go to the garage and get a tarp and we wrapped him in it. I took him to my neighbor's house but he wasn't home. I left a long note on his door and placed the dog on the front porch wrapped in the tarp. I was sick with grief. All I could think of was I had killed two dogs in one day. I felt awful. My neighbor called me and we cried and he forgave me. He also thanked me bringing his dog home to him and said most wouldn't have bothered. I know how you feel. I'm sorry for your loss and you both deserved better than that.
