Posted March 27, 200817 yr comment_242046 On my 71 240z the oil pressure gauge just quit working....(or I hope it has).Whether the car is running or not the reading stays at the full right side, never goes down or moves. I'm guessing it's a connection somewhere but didn't know where to look....any ideas, the haynes manual is no help. Thanks for any help. March 27, 200817 yr comment_242049 I'd pull the wire off of the sending unit and see if needle stays all the way to the right. If so I'd say the gauge itself is physically stuck. Tapping on it might unstick it. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/27523-oil-pressure-reading/#findComment-242049 Share on other sites
March 27, 200817 yr comment_242056 Add to that try grounding the wire you take off the sender and see if the needle moves, senders go bad often-frequently they leak oil when they do.Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/27523-oil-pressure-reading/#findComment-242056 Share on other sites
March 27, 200817 yr comment_242088 If the wire from the sending unit is grounded it will peg the needle. So if the wire is shorted out some where this could cause this. However the needle should go back to zero when the ignition key is in the off position. Like MikeW said tap the gage it just might be stuck. March 28, 200817 yr Author comment_242112 It's the gauge....I tapped it and it moves around. The plastic cover to the gauge is also loose, I'm assuming I can't remove it from the front....is that correct? I don't think I can fix it unless I can remove the plastic cover. March 28, 200817 yr comment_242133 One way is to remove the glove box insert then reach thru the opening to the inner dash to loosen the 8mm screw. disconnect the wires then push it in towards the firewall and into your right hand. At that point, you can either fix it or replace it.
