Posted March 29, 200816 yr comment_242263 Posted in the electrical section before I saw this section. So, just saying Hi.New to the Z game and I can already tell that this forum ROCKS! It is obvious that there is a HUGE amount of info and knowledge here.I am 42 years old and I've been a car freak since I was about 10 when my brothers had me helping them with their cars.I am going to be "renovating" a 71' 240Z and will be searching this forum high and low for info.My other hobbies are a 96' Impala SS (once totaled - now fully custom) and fly-fishing (not necessarily in that order! ) Thank you for making this information available! How did we ever survive without these forums in the past???Tim ReinhardtColorado Springs, CO. March 30, 200816 yr comment_242362 Good looking start. Very nice haul on parts....Looks like some rust on the battery tray...watch out for that. Also check out the frame rails, floors, rocker panels, etc. (other common rust spots).Have fun. Nothing like cruising in the mountains on a nice summer day in your Z. There is a little bit of rust on the drivers floor board, but it was cleaned up fairly well and I will pull the carpet up and check everything out (have to strip everything out of the interior anyway). The rockers look good. I will check the other spots over the next week (weather is supposed to get shaky tomorrow). April 2, 200816 yr comment_242777 Not looking to buy, but those "D" hubcaps are worth a pretty penny depending on condition if you're looking for money to help finance your refurb. The "D" hubcaps are usually associated with the earlier Series I cars. Nice looking car overall and a good start -- wish I was that far along in my project. April 2, 200816 yr Author comment_242781 great! welcome here! Are you selling those stuff Ssuspect? Thank you! I am sure that I will be interested in selling some parts a little later, but for now I am still trying to get my arms around what all I have vs. what I have to work on. Once I get it running, I'll go from there and see what I have left. Not looking to buy, but those "D" hubcaps are worth a pretty penny depending on condition if you're looking for money to help finance your refurb. The "D" hubcaps are usually associated with the earlier Series I cars. Nice looking car overall and a good start -- wish I was that far along in my project. Thanks for the heads up! Again, I have not looked very close at the caps, but I do know that they are in "pretty good" shape. I am not much of a "hubcap guy" and am sure that I will be changing the wheels and tires at some point after I get it running. However, I may look at moving them to help offset the $630 that I need for the Z-Therapy folks... :nervous: Looks like some rust on the battery tray...watch out for that. Also check out the frame rails, floors, rocker panels, etc. (other common rust spots). Did some checking and it actually looks really good. The only rust is on a small part (about 2" long) of the battery tray itself. No "obvious" rust (or apparent acid damage) on the firewall, fenders or frame rails. Still need to pull the rocker panel trim (nothing visible with them in place) and check under and through the entire car. Colorado is VERY dry and rust problems are somewhat reduced compared to a LOT of other places. Thanks again for the words of encouragement! April 2, 200816 yr comment_242787 You found the right place for advice and recommendations on early Z-cars. These cars are simple and for the most part "easy-to-work-on". There are tips that can make some jobs easier.Looks like the previous owner had a hobby of collecting air cleaners???Did he also supply several extra sets of SU carbs?
