Posted April 3, 200817 yr comment_242845 I have a 1978 (manufactured Nov 1977) 280z 2+2. I recently wrote a thread about "electrical weirdness" happening in my car. It ended up being my accessory fusible link burning up to a crisp, I believe because I used home stereo speakers in place of car speakers. Does anyone suggest, or know what the proper ohms/watts speakers should be so I don't burn up another fusible link? Is there a mod I can do that will allow my electrical system to handle big booming speakers? April 3, 200817 yr comment_242853 Which radio or amplifier is in the car? I've used home stereo speakers on car stereos before, but the stereo was made Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/27599-accessory-fusible-link-vs-car-stereo-speakers/#findComment-242853 Share on other sites
April 3, 200817 yr comment_242854 Which fuse link was melted/burned? You must have one hell of an aplifier or stereo to bedrawing enough current to melt a fuse link, which could be anywhere from 25 to 50 Amps. Did you burn up your wiring too? April 3, 200817 yr comment_242855 that's an easy one.... Stop using house speakers in your Z.Regular speakers in almost any car are 4 ohms, he typical house speaker is 8 ohms.Get a real car audio amplifier from your local car audio shop, use real power wire from the battery to the amp. Run new speaker wire from the amp to the speakers.I have over 800 watts from 2 different amps, 2-10" subs, 2-6.5" speakers, 2-5.25" speakers, 2-4" speakers, Pioneer AM/FM/CD/XM deck, seperate DVD player and 7" monitor. My fuses never overheat cause it's all wired in correctly.Go to a stereo shop and spend some real money for some real sound, that's "Booming"Dave. April 4, 200817 yr Author comment_242903 Thanks guys. I'm now using smaller (not as good sounding) speakers until I get enough bread together to get the big booming system. April 4, 200817 yr comment_242907 Great. In the meantime, get some books au the library or hang with some audio dudes and learn all about what you need ( which costs nothing) Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/27599-accessory-fusible-link-vs-car-stereo-speakers/#findComment-242907 Share on other sites
