240 MM 2+2 (TURBO) Flywheel

I recently purchased a 240mm flywheel from the Z Barn. I plan to lighten to 18 lb. and install in my 71 Z with an F54 2800 block and the original Datsun 4 speed. Will everything bolt right up with the 240 Z throwout bearing and clutch fork when I install the new clutch. What brand clutch is best for this application. I should be running about 200 flywheel h.p. in the new engine. Guy

The 240 (some say 243) mm flywheel uses a 9 bolt pressure plate. I have that setup in my 78 with a ZX 5 speed. It's a factory 2+2/Turbo disc, plate, t.o. bearing ordered through Nissan about 8 years ago. You'll probably want something more than a stock clutch with 200 flywheel hp (others can chime in here). Your t.o. bearing has to be matched with the pressure plate so I'm not sure that the 240Z one will work due to the sleeve length. If you go aftermarket, the disc, plate, and t.o. bearing needs to be for a 2+2/Turbo and you'll need the correct length t.o. bearing sleeve.

Can anyone tell me what clutch fork and clutch sleeve can be used with the 240mm flywheel and clutch. I bought the fork and sleeve for the 82-83 turbo. If I install the fork and clutch sleeve with the stock TO bearing, will that combo work with my 71 4 speed or my 77 5 speed in my 71 240Z with the 240mm flyheel and clutch? The Nissan part numbers are 30531-po151 for the fork and 30501-k0404 for the sleeve (both are for the 82-83 turbo with 240mm flywheel)

Using the Nissan Fast program, and using the ZXT as the input, I come up with 30531-P0151 for the fork, which is the same as what you listed, and 30501-K0401 for the sleeve. When I use the non turbo ZX as the input, I come up with 30531-P0151 for the fork, and 30501-N1600 for the sleeve. The latter combo is what you'd want since it's for the Nissan trans. I didn't realize that the fork for the T5 would be the same but apparently the sleeve isn't

How about if I want to hook the 240mm setup up to my 71 4 speed.......what fork and sleeve would I use in that case? Remember the slave cylinder is different on the 240z.....the plunger rod actually goes through the fork end.....could I use my 71 4 speed fork and sleeve, or would I need a new fork and sleeve, or just a new sleeve and the old fork? I'm getting all forked up. Thanks for your help. Guy

The way I understand it, the sleeve is the important thing as it has to match up with the pressure plate. Someone jump in here if this is wrong but my take on this is that as long as the sleeve and plate match it doesn't matter what fork you use.

Correct. I am using the fork from a 1970-1971 240z with the adjustable slave cylinder, a 240 mm Fidanza flywheel, ACT heavy duty pressure plate, and a 1993 300zx TT transmission in my 1972 240z.

Bo So if I wanted to install the 240mm flywheel with a 240mm Exedy clutch and disc with my 1971 4 speed transmission........Could I use my stock fork, stock TO bearing and stock sleeve, or would I need to change any of my stock items? (ex. a different sleeve etc.) Thanks for your input. Guy

Guy, you can use the stock fork and TO bearing. You can not use the stock TO collar/sleeve. The TO collar/sleeve is matched to the pressure plate. The 240z and turbo/2+2 collars are longer than the 280z coupe collars. If I remember correctly, most aftermarket pressure plates are setup for the 280z.

When I installed my ACT pressure plate and clutch, I installed the 2+2/turbo collar. When I bolted up my transmission to the engine, the fork did not have enough travel. I had to drop the transmission and replace it with the shorter, 280z collar.

MSA states this as well. When purchasing a Centerforce setup, the collar for a 280z must be used.

Bo

So what I am going to do is use my stock fork, my stock TO bearing and the collar for a 280z (non turbo non 2+2). You wouldn't happen to know what MSA part #, since different 280 non turbos call for different collars. I really appreciate evryone's help with this. Changing the clutch, flywheel and pulling the tranny is a job that I love to do only once! Thanks Bo and Stephen. Guy
