Borg-Warner 5-spd

Hey guys, I know Borg-Warner made 2 versions of the T-5 used in the 280zx. One of them was used for the Mustangs of that era if I'm not mistaken and I was wondering, since T-5s for the Z are so hard to come by if you can use the Ford T-5 instead? I would think there's an adapter or something you can get, but I wouldn't know where to look to buy one. Any info?

Hybridz.com would be the best place to find out this information. However, my understanding is that there was only one type of BW T-5 used in the 280ZX Turbos and they were not the same as the Mustangs. I believe there might have been a different type of T-5 that was not interchangeable in the earlier Zs that was used in some of the 300ZX. I don't know the last part as fact, you'll have to do your own research. Again, Hybridz would be your best bet for this information.

Only real difference is the bell housing, they also used the BW T-5 in the 300ZX but that was with the V6 motor. What you need is the correct bell housing and if you use the 300ZX T-5, you'll need to swap out the input shaft for the shorter 280ZX style.

I Have a 300ZX B/W T-5 in the garage if anyone is interested. It needs a rebuild and the correct input shaft and bell housing.

Dave.
