Posted April 9, 200816 yr comment_243535 I took apart the bottom and used plastigage to check oil clearances, and the main bearings were all within spec and one was just at the loose end of spec (according to the rebuild your datsun engine book). The journal bearings were all identical and within spec. I took some pics and if anyone has any input or comments, id like to hear. April 9, 200816 yr Author comment_243574 Just had to cut the oil pump right off. One of the bolts was rusted to the shaft and the head snapped off then it wouldnt even budge. No damage done, just need another oil pump now. Maybe someone will bring one to the swap meet this weekend! April 10, 200816 yr comment_243586 Second photo down on the left looks pitted. The other two look pretty good. Frank Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/27673-pics-of-engine-bearings/#findComment-243586 Share on other sites
April 10, 200816 yr comment_243616 the first two caps shows some wear but the third one doesnt look all that good . What does the crank look like? I would think the crank would polish out fine just from the looks of the bearings. If you need to replace the pump , go for a turbo pump. They deliver more volume, mine gives me 25 psi at idle and 50 while driving after the engine is totally warmed up. Not much difference in price either.
