L24 Stroker

Well, I am making head way to get my L24 stroked.

Now my question is, which would be the best route to go. Which has the more potential for power? The L28 crank vs. the LD28 (or is it the LB28) diesel crank.

I would imagine the diesel crank route would be more expensive, but I would think that I would be able to get a heck of a lot more torque out of it.

Grab a F54 block (80-83 Z cars) and put in a LD28 crank (Maxima Desiel 80-83) with the short 9mm L24 rods, flat top forged pistons, turbo, and shot of spool up NOS and you should have enough HORSE POWER coming out your ears, a$$, nose, mouth and what other holes there are to keep your pockets empty puting in gas. LOL

If you are not happy with 200 to 300 HP from the inline 6, then slap in a V8 and slide over to HybridZ for a complete friendly enviroment. LOL

Check out this link from carl beck's site for great info.

I want to stay carb, and I have been thinking of picking up a local L28, and use that block with my current head. Just that I would need to drop more money into the motor for triple carbs, and I still need to finish restoring the rest of the beast which still needs a lot of work.

Rebello quoted me 220bhp, which is actually the number that I have been looking for. The speed to weight ratio, a long with the 80' 5-speed and a LSD 3.9 or 4.11 is really my dream 240z. It is plenty of a power increase for me in this light of car.

Though, I have been looking for a L28DET, and get that thing stock pushing crazy power, but I want to stay pre-ECU, pre-FI. Love the carbs too much to let them go.

Got to work on my dream Datsun before I do anything else. I know that this is the route where you spend just as much as every one else, if not more, and get the least out of it, but this is what I want and have wanted since day 1.

If I want more power, I will buy a 1984 Turbo 300zx and get that bad boy twin-turbocharged tuned for at least 400hp, with the capability of up to 500hp, or get a 1981-83 Turbocharged 280zx and have that pushing 300hp to 350hp. If I ever get a good job, I am wanting to add both of these to my Z collection.

I have the exact same Rebello set up in my car that you are looking for (except for the L$D). Not the fastest Z ive ever been in but its what i was looking for. Enough grunt to put a good oldfashioned smiley face on me. Id say GO FOR IT!!!

Are you stroking an L24 or an L28?

I'm not being funny, it's not the same.

Rebello does do strokers for L24s bumping them up 2.7L but for the price why not start with the 2.8L, unless that is what you mean?

It ain't cheap!!!!LOL

* Also, 220 HP is about the limit for the chassis without doing some stich welding if the frame and strut towers... Don't want to "pretzel" that nice chassis.

Says who? There are plenty of people running over 300 hp without issues.

Yeah, I've never heard of a frame being damaged from a high power engine by not strengthening the frame and using strut bars.

I could see it happening in the series 1 Z's though (and I think I've heard of a case where a high torque V8 had caused wrinkles in the firewall) I'm not totally sure but isn't the weight increase between the series 1 Z and the later Z's due to frame strengthening.

since there is no frame , it is due partly to thicker sheet metal in the car overall. With larger bumpers and emissions junk also. 2200 Lbs. Vs. 2600 Lbs.

Red dog, Just because you use a F-54 , you don't have to give up the carbs. You are so fond of. I didn't. Actually the 280s are bored and stroked L-24s. Have you looked into the cost of a Stroker ? Unless you have deep pockets or Daddy does this is a spendy build.

I've seen S30s with with built L6 engines with damage to the body, frame rails, body panels that no longer line up, etc. due to too much power. So imagine what a V8 can do to a car that wasn't designed to have that much power initially. Never seen it? 300 hp without issues? With no frame mods? Look closer.
