I have a 72 240 Z with 60K miles. It appears the rear oil seal on the rear extension housing of the transmission is leaking. The propshaft is throwing oil onto either side of the underneath of the car. I looked at the service manual I have, but it doesn't give a lot of detail as to how to replace the seal. It appears it can be replaced by dropping the propshaft and "prying" off what appears to be a cap and replacing the seal. If anyone has done this and has more detailed instructions, please help me out.

Thanks.

This is from another Nissan FSM but gives you the idea.

Make sure you don't scrape the output shaft or the gearbox internal surface with the Special Tool, Screwdriver, flat blade NISSAN brand:finger:

Instead of ST33400001 you can use a large socket.

It needs to be the same diameter as the OD of the new seal or slightly smaller.

Use oil on the seal surfaces before inserting the seal and the prop shaft tube.

Nissanman,

Thanks for the diagram and the advice. Really appreciate it. It's great to have this forum to share experience and knowledge about our Z cars!!
