Posted April 14, 200816 yr comment_244114 Hey, ive been geting my 260Z back to road worthiness and recently my grandfather decided to help out. he ended up buying me a complete fuel injection manifold. I have some 4 screw round top SU's right now, but it would be nice to have fuel injection. How much trouble would it be to put on the FI. i dont have the wire harness for the FI just the manifold. Thanks in advance Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/27727-is-fi-worth-it/ Share on other sites
April 14, 200816 yr comment_244116 It's more than just the wiring harness. You'd also need the ECU, relays and brackets, fuel lines, fuel pump, fuel tank, etc. I have many years experience with 280z EFI and I'm not sure I'd tackle that job. April 14, 200816 yr comment_244117 If you are converting to EFI, you might as well go with a stand alone system like Megasquirt. Saying that, Stephen is correct in that converting to EFI is a lot more than simply bolting on a manifold and adding injectors. April 14, 200816 yr comment_244136 Aftermarket EMS, though more costly, would be easier to set up. At least, the electrical part of it would. The old Z/ZX/810/Maxima EFI system is somewhat antiquated. My cars already have it so I've learned to work with it and live with it. If I was going to convert a non EFI car to EFI, I would definately go with something more modern. You can tune an aftermarket stand alone system with your laptop! April 14, 200816 yr comment_244140 My first '71 had been 'converted' to injection, using the system from an '83 ZX. Yes, it worked. But it was a total mess with new wires and such all over the place. I ended up converting back to SUs. In my experience, trying to retrofit the later injection to an earlier car is more trouble than it's worth. Like everyone else here, if I wanted injection on an early carb'd car, I'd go aftermarket as well. April 14, 200816 yr comment_244141 Yeah, I've got a comlete EFI harness somewhere as a spare for my 78. If you take a look at that thing, it gives you no clue of how it should be routed and I would think that the only way you could even be close is to have a complete EFI car, harness in place, next to the one that you're converting for comparison. I still wouldn't want do it! Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/27727-is-fi-worth-it/#findComment-244141 Share on other sites

The results were not pretty. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/27727-is-fi-worth-it/#findComment-244148 Share on other sites
