kph in a 240Z?

Guus,

my 240z has an mph speedo. I also got a 26oZ speedo in km/h.

Their sizes ares identical, but not the way they are fixed to the dash and also the plugs/wirering is different. I would not try to change the speedo exept taking out the dash for easy access.

What I did: At first I drove the car as exactly as possible for exactly 1 km at speedo showing 2o mph,30 mph, 50 mph and stopped the seconds I needed. Then I calculated the km/h at these figures. My speedo seems to be quite exact. In average I had to multiply the mph figure by 1,65 to get the "calibrated" km/h figure. I took a transparent adhesive foil and cut it to the silhouette of the speedo's glas. On that foil I marked little dots there where the speedo showed every 10 mph when I look at it normally sitting in my driver's seat. I took out the foil and pressed letra-set figures on it,

showing the matching km/h. 0 = 0, 20mph = 33 km/h, 30mph = 50 km/h, 60mph = 100 km/h, 80 mph = 130 kmh, 110 mph = 180 km/h. 140 mph = 230 km/h.

I finally fixed the foil on the glas. It works sufficient. I never had a problem with radar or laser guns because of wrong reading. The police normally accepts little tolerances and nearly every speedo has tolerances.

I’ll agree to that. In my US imported car was mph speedo as well, I change it into a kph speedo. But its sort of accurate (10kph different) around the 100 /140 kph. I tested with two cars. But above that with high speeds it’s ‘dancing’, in no time I drive 210????

I think I’ve to check the kph speedo, or change it with a 260Z?

Yes, I've replaced it.

Now before anyone asks, I'm not exactly what it came out of as I simply asked my mecanic if it could be done, to wit he answered yes and handed me the speedo.

Now I also have a 260 and they appear the same [from memory]. I'll take a photo tonight of both and post it tomorrow.
