280zx Dizzy

Hey all,

Where can I pick up a electronic dizzy. I have been looking at ebay but not seeing anything. Would like to switch the 73 over and ditch the points.

Local junkyard has nothing.

Any ideas? Anyone have a spare that wants to sell?

Thanks

Phil

Phil, I've got some of what you'd need. I have a bare dizzy with the proper tower. But it has no module or vacuum pot, and the bushings have some play in them.

Are the shaft bushings in your points dizzy OK? If they are, I'd consider a new Pertronix instead. Probably cost about the same, and a whole lot easier to find.

Phil, all the ZX dist that are form a non turbo car and manual trans. are the same. So look for one from a '79---'83ZX And the '79-'80 are the ones with the module with the 12-80 marked on the side of it. This is the module to use with Carburetors . The 12-80 module can also be found on the 720 pickup, 200SX ,210, 310,510 and the Maxima If you find a dist at a bone yard be sure to also get the mount that fits between the Dist. and the engine. The 240 part will not work even though they look the same. You will not be able to properly time the engine. I found a great unit on a '84 Maxima for a friend just the other day. Now it has he wrong module but this is a snap to change. Gary

I would check with your local parts stores first, a rebuilt unit will probably be a better deal than a junk yard or ebay unit in questionable condition. I found one with just a couple calls about two years ago when I was looking. Beleive it or not it included the 12-80 module and a new vacuum pot for about $80, they even accepted my 240 dizzy as a core.

Has anyone put a Pertronix in a 280ZX distributor? Given the cost of a replacement ignition module, the Pertronix would be a much cheaper option and probably last longer too.

I was searching around on the Pertronix website, but couldn't find anything. I was planning to call them directly and see if they had an application for it, but wife, kids and work keep screwing up my schedule! ;)
