April 22, 200817 yr comment_244890 it's telling you that your car has a build date of 12/72 and has the serial number 139079Vin codes didn't come out till the 80's (the ones that tell useful information about your car)so all your car has is the build date and the serial number (basically just an ID number saying your car is number 139079/XXXXXX carsbasically, it tells you absolutely nothing useful for restoring it to original. April 22, 200817 yr comment_244897 You might want to check to see if that number also matches the number on the dash. This same number is stamped onto the firewall. There's another tag under the hood that also shows the number along with the engine number. That will allow you to determine if the engine is original to the car. April 22, 200817 yr comment_244904 The under hood tag MikeW is talking about is on the passenger shock tower, and you will be looking at it up-side down. The engine number is on this tag and the engine number is on the smooth pads of the block just under cylinder #'s 5 & 6, back of engine near the firewall.Bonzi Lon Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/27809-production-date-and-serial-number-info/#findComment-244904 Share on other sites
