April 29, 200816 yr comment_245586 Welcome aboard. For the more aggressive HP mod's, you'll want to check out the hybridz board.Things you can do to a 260Z.1) Remove flat top carbs and move to round-top SU's. Better performance, easier to keep in tune.2) Let her breathe...Upgrade cam / carbs / exhaust. i) Move to a beefy cam (Motorsport Auto is one source; be careful, ensure it is for street use and not just hard core racing). ii) Install triple Webers carbs iii) Exhaust header3) Upgrade to an L28 (possibly an L28 Turbo).4) Get your engine or a transplant rebuild / refreshed. Build a stroker, etc.All kinds of options. You can dump a ton of money into performance and you will almost never see it back if you sell. Spend it if you intend to enjoy it. April 29, 200816 yr comment_245616 The 260 block has the same crank as a 280 so the little difference is not as significant as if you were driving a 240. Changing ignition to electronic will help wake up this engine and by all means change the flat topped carbs to SUs. Check and see what diff gear ratio you are running. If the PO just stuck in a 5 speed and kept the old ratio . find a 3.90 diff. with your overdrive 5th gear you will have good hi way speed and much more torque off the line. These three things will make a good difference. From there it is big bucks . Just how fast do you want to spend. April 30, 200816 yr comment_245678 Hey out there i'm a new 74 260z owner and I could use some help. How do I find out about the production runs for automatic transmissions? Someone out there told me they only made 16, is it true? I have one with only 18,000 miles on it, factory air, even the factory tires. Only thing not factory are the carbs. Thanks, Catman. April 30, 200816 yr comment_245697 Carl Beck will probably have all the production information you seek. Chances are he'll see your post and respond. If not, you can visit the website: http://zhome.com/ and search for the information you require.Frank Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/27906-new-owner-74-260z/#findComment-245697 Share on other sites
April 30, 200816 yr comment_245698 Forgive me:nervous: but if Nissan had only made 16 cars in the 260Z model year with automatic transmissions, those cars would be worth a LOT more than they are.:tapemouth Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/27906-new-owner-74-260z/#findComment-245698 Share on other sites
April 30, 200816 yr comment_245758 I have a 74 260 auto as well, just picked up a nicely warmed up 280 motor with 5 speed , dynoed at the rear wheels @ 160 hp ,has run low 15 second quarter mile ,needing some minor tuning . Also have a r200 lsd 391 gear that when this package is installed would be a big improvement over what i have now.
