Posted May 2, 200816 yr comment_245965 Hi, i Just try my new harness and unfortunatly it didn't work, i discovered that i'm not getting any spark from the coil, this i what i have build and connected so far:IGNITION SWITCH1.- from the IG switch to the starter (BY black-yellow)2.- From the IG switch to the fuse box (BW black-white)3.- from the IG switch to the Ammeter, to fuse box (WR white-red)4.- from the IG switch to the fuse box (LR blue-red)5.- from the IG switch to the tachometer (GW green-white)COIL:1.- from the + coil to the tachometer(BW black white)2.- from the - coil to the distributorNote: the coil make a loop from the BW with the ignition switch GWALTERNATOR:1.- From the Alternator to the fuse box (WR white-red)2.- From the Alternator to the Ammeter (WR white-red)3.- From the Alternator to the Ignition switch (WR white-red)Note the alternator goes to the IG switch in point 3VOL. REGULATOR:1.- From the Vol. regulator to the Alternator (Y Yellow)2.- From the Vol. regulator to the Alternator (WB white-black)3.- From the Vol. regulator to ground (B black) 4.- From the Vol. regulator to the Starter and into the ammeter and fuse box (W white)I am telling you as much as i can and i am writting the original color (I have diferet colors since i'm making the harness)I dicovered i had no spark from the coil to the alternator paceng the cable that goes from the coil to the alternator to ground and i was expecting a spark but nothing happened, the i place the coil directly from the battery and still the same i measure with a volt meter and i read read 8.8 volts between the coil terminalsThe battery was fully chargeany ideas what to check next?i will appreciate any helpthank you all---------------------------------72 240zMexico City Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/27953-please-help-me/ Share on other sites
May 2, 200816 yr Author comment_245966 I am using the pertronix with a 3 ohm coil, that is why i am not listing the BR Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/27953-please-help-me/#findComment-245966 Share on other sites
May 2, 200816 yr comment_245970 Did you connect the two ballast resistor wires to each other? That is required. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/27953-please-help-me/#findComment-245970 Share on other sites
May 2, 200816 yr Author comment_245974 I conected the BRThe BW (Black white) wire that comes from the IG switch and into the fuse box to the GW (Green-white) that goes to the tachometer Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/27953-please-help-me/#findComment-245974 Share on other sites
May 2, 200816 yr comment_246007 Check the connections at your Ignition Switch. In the START position you should have continuity between the White/Red and the Green/White and also the Black/Yellow.In the RUN position, continuity between the W/R and the Black/White and the Blue/Red. The Accessory position is W/R to bLue/R only. (L is the short hand for Blue). You're making your own harness, which if you're following the schematic faithfully should mirror what we can reference and help you with. One last item, are you sure the coil wire to the distributor cap is properly seated at both ends?FWIWE Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/27953-please-help-me/#findComment-246007 Share on other sites
May 2, 200816 yr Author comment_246008 Thank you EScanlon, i check the coil wire and is properly seated at both ends, i am going to check the continuity as su said, one cuestion, i do not have the acc's relay conected will this affect the starting? May 2, 200816 yr comment_246013 Thank you EScanlon, i check the coil wire and is properly seated at both ends, i am going to check the continuity as su said, one cuestion, i do not have the acc's relay conected will this affect the starting? It shouldn't. The Accessory Relay only comes on line once the engine is running and the ignition switch is in the RUN position. So to review:1) The Starter DOES CRANK the engine.2) The engine doesn't fire.3) You've determined that the coil is not sending spark to the distributor.4) You've reviewed the Pertronix connection to ensure that it's correct and working.I seem to recall an item on the pertronix requiring the BR. However, the last Pertronix I installed was on a Roadster (4 cylinder) and I used the stock coil so I left the BR in the circuit. It was working fine, so I'm not sure if that's a must on the Z or not.Anyone else with suggestions?E Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/27953-please-help-me/#findComment-246013 Share on other sites
May 2, 200816 yr Author comment_246020 Thank you again for the quick response,Regarding the BR here is what i did, perhaps is wrong:I just put togheter the BW cable with the GW cable from the ignition switch Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/27953-please-help-me/#findComment-246020 Share on other sites
May 2, 200816 yr comment_246027 I have the Pertronix system in my '70 Z. The ballast resistor must remain in play.Frank Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/27953-please-help-me/#findComment-246027 Share on other sites
May 2, 200816 yr Author comment_246029 Thank you, how do i wire the BR to the coil? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/27953-please-help-me/#findComment-246029 Share on other sites
May 3, 200816 yr comment_246036 The BR makes the connection between the Green/White wire that "T"'s off the GW going to the Tach and coming from the ignition; and the Black/White wire that "T"'s off the BW going to the Fuse Box coming from the ignition.Hope that made sense. But per post #4 you had already done that, so maybe I'm getting confused on something.Hope this helpsE Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/27953-please-help-me/#findComment-246036 Share on other sites
