Did you see the rest of the ad on that second listing?

I put a lot of time, effort, and money into maintaining the original look of the Z, and have gotten pretty dang close.

Great english:classic: Maintaining original look? Hmm that air dam looks like it was made for a 280ZX not a 260.

  • 2 weeks later...

There were a few dealers in Calif. that added sun roofs and side moldings and the mag wheels and tires and even air cond.. The cars came so well done from the factory that the dealers couldent make any extra cash unless they added the "options" them selves. Remember the early Zs came with steel wheels and hub caps .There may have been other dealers as well , I only know of San Diego and L.A.

Original engine 3 litre 260z ? yep probaly knows nothing about cars. Well you would have to have no taste to put a air dam like that on a beautiful car like a Zed (the bronze one I'm talking about).

And 240z never came with sunroofs. that's a dealer (not factory, there is a differance) installed option, like mags and air conditioning. suppose the bonnet vents and front spoiler are "original" too. not for a 240z. original to some people means "well they were on the car when I bought it".

Hey I've noticed a disturbing trend on e-bay. Instead of selling the whole car for say $3000, sellers have been selling their 240z's piece by piece. What do they make more money that way?

Do a search, you could build your own zed from all the parts listed on there.

what I was mearly stating is that yes they were dealer installed but nuntheless they came from Datsun on a bran new car. Just like today if you went into a dealership and wanted some brand of race tires on the new 350Z and were willing to pay you would get what you wanted. I know that there are people out there that have little knowledge of the Z-cars. Ask y our mother if the style of wheels you have on your car are a bone stock item. Most likely she wouldent know or care. If you were killed , god forbid , and she had to sell the Z , what do you think she would say if asked if it had stock wheels ? I dont want to continue this as an arguement I was only stating some facts. The old guy

I agree with Beandip on this one. Yeah people don't alway get the lingo right, we even see it here on this site. Maybe they feel the sunroof is rare because most Z's didn't come with one. Mine came off the lot with a dealer installed sunroof. Is it rare? Seems like its kind of a rare occurance for Z's. Is it technically correct in the world of Z's maybe not.

That second one about the 3.1 litre or whatever. The previous owner could've said that was what was in it and not knowing any better believed them and not having enough interest to research it maybe thought the info was good. There are people that will say anything to make a sale but..... I don't know, seems like this isn't something to get that wound up about.

The average person does not spend time everyday on a Z specific web site, and probably has no idea that people know (or care) what was stock. Like XYZ says, the person was probably parrotting what they were told when they bought the car.

I see Z's and '60's Mustang's listed as having V-6 engines in the local newspapers all the time. The sellers generally have no idea that there is a difference between a straight and V 6. Most people hear "V-6" and know that they own a 6 cyclinder and think that the terms are interchangable.

Remember if you come to a car site, you're probably among the upper percentage of people (in the general population) who know about cars - even if you know next to nothing.

There were some different works options in different countries. All Zs delivered by Datsun Germany had soft front and rear spoilers.

I also know somebody who has a textil sunroof in his 260Z 2+2. He is the original owner and he said that option was on the official list. I also heard that the headlight covers were standard in some countries. Maybe Alan T. knows a lot more about that.
