I just recently installed a new system in my 82 and ran into the same problem. I ended up just replacing all the wiring, speakers, power and ground also installed new speakers since I was that far into it. Probably the best thing to due since they were all 25 years old. It took a little bit longer but at least I know which wires are what now and the system sounds great.

You probably want to run new wire to the rear speakers. Nissan used a common connecting right rear front and left rear front. By running wires to the rears you eliminate that. use the wires from the front as they are harder to rerun. Also you might want to put new coax in for the antenna. I've had two go bad the center conductor is about the size of froghair. Ground to any good bolt that goes into the body.

There are two types of radio setups in a 82 ZX. This may or may not make a difference when installing a stereo. The first scan is the standard type and the second is the electronic tuning type which is the same as shown in post #6. I 'landscaped' them so that they might be easier to read.
