Posted May 7, 200816 yr comment_246540 Hey out there, I'm a new zcar owner up here in niagara falls canada, totally green and looking for help. I just lucked out and found my new girl hiding in a backyard begging me to take her home, so I did. I've got a 74 260z with 18,000 original miles. She's all there including factory floor mats, rims, even the rubber is factory. She also has inline 6 motor and an automatic transmission and factory air. She is in great shape although she is sunfaded and the dash has 3 splits in it. Minimal rust around passsenger rear wheel and front fender just in front of pass door and the rocker under pass door. I am going to do a total reno on her and hope to have it done by end of this summer. I am trying to research the car because the guy I got it from is under the impression that there was around 68,000 produced but only 16 or so got the automatic transmissions. Can anyone give me any info on this or put me in the right direction. All info would be appreciated and I will start to post my photos of her once I start the rebuild. I do know that the carbs were switched out on it, should I try to find originals? Or were they no good? May 7, 200816 yr comment_246545 Hello and welcome. Most enthusists will tell you to never go back to the origianl carbs. Sounds like you're on the right track in that regard. Good luck. May 8, 200816 yr comment_246704 Welcome Catman, I also own a 260 auto , I can see 16% total production ,not 16 cars. My experience with z car ownership finds that the stick cars are more desirable and soon planning a 5 speed conversion on mine. I,m just north of Toronto and will be at the Falls next weekend. May 9, 200816 yr comment_246714 If I were a bettin man, and I am, I'd say he meant 16,000 were auto's. That's a givin. COngrats on the find. I too just bought my first 260Z about a month ago and I'm re-learning everything different about the 260z versus the 70' 240Z that I already own (almost 6 years now)Dave. May 14, 200816 yr Author comment_247268 Hey everyone thanks for the input, I kinda thought that 16 was an unrealistic number but that's ok, I still think she was a good find. I am looking for a good dash if anyone knows where I could get one. May 14, 200816 yr comment_247297 Hey everyone thanks for the input, I kinda thought that 16 was an unrealistic number but that's ok, I still think she was a good find. I am looking for a good dash if anyone knows where I could get one. Try looking for a full face dash cap. It's the economic alternative and they look great if installed correctly. Even my own half cap looks decent. MSA and Black Dragon have them. Another alternative is to fix your original dash yourself. Somewhere there's a thread on here that showed some good results. Can't remember who posted his work, but if your handy it may be the project for you.
