You're gonna laugh

As some of you know, I posted in the help section, "WTF did I do"?" http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30498

Dave, (Zs-ondabrain) who so kindly built my my electrical upgrade pointed out that I only checked the 30amp connection and forgot the 15. 15? Where TF was the 15? He suggested that I trace the wiring from the firewall and look for the other fuse. There was no other fuse. By this time, I was pissed and being in that frame of mind wasn't going to help me. So after about an hour and a half tracing wires I went to bed.

I was so mad about this, I got up at 3:23am to see if anyone else had any ideas. So this morning I got up and started the search again, all to no avail. Then the hammer hit me in the forehead. While I was playing under the hood, my eldest daughter was helping me by cleaning the inside of my Z. Lexi (the daughter) yelled at me, "daddy what is the long white wire?" I took a quick glance and didn't recognize it, so I thought it was a wire I missed from the previous owner's homemade stereo kit. So I told Lex to cut the wire as far back as she could get her hand so It would never be seen. She proceeded to do such and I pulled the remaining wire out of the firewall.

While in my garage this morning the light bulb over my head came on. I ran over to the trash and there was my harness wire with the 15 amp fuse junction in it. Sure enough it was the wire to my dash and running lights! Call me captain dumbass!!! In case you had forgot, I asked my daughter to cut the wire back as far as possible.

My lesson to pass along to all? NEVER CUT ANY WIRES OR TELL ANYONE TO CUT ANY WIRES UNLESS YOU ARE POSITIVE YOU KNOW WHAT THE HELL IT GOES TO!

LOL If it's any consolation I've done things like that too. I tore up a C5 automatic that way. Hey, I thought it was a part I would never need for a valve body upgrade. Boy was I wrong...locked the transmission at 65 MPH and totalled the car.

I'm glad, though, that you remembered and will be able to fix it easily enough!

You'll have to excuse me for a second, my head is hurting from falling off my chair, from laughing so hard. Hell, even my wife is in the corner giggling up a storm. Thats's some funny shite......

I'm glad to hear you figured it out. I figured it was a lack of it being disconnected but never thought you'd go Rambo on it. So how do the battery cables look and work? I made up another set to "Sell" at MSA for $80 but no one was interested.

Quit breaking stuff and drive the damn car.

Dave.

Thanks for the "ad" I still have it, and if nobody buys it, it's going on the 260Z. I don't have to think twice about that. I'm this close to starting on the 74 as it is so the box of upgrades is ready to be filled.

How were the fitment issues with the terminals being aimed out, considering they were designed with rear aiming in mind? I did it that way to hide the wires from being in front of the battery. I just like a clean tray area but if you wanna show them off, that's awesome.

Dave.

By the way, I'm still chuckling about that. LOL LOL LOL

Some tweaking here and there, but the wires were so pretty, I didn't want to hide them. Yeah, I'm a dumbass. Did I mention, I'm a banker, not an engineer?

I'm headed to Mooresville Indiana Saturday for a benefit car show for the SPC Stephen P Downing II Memorial Car Show. He was killed in Iraq. The show is to benefit his family. Thought it'd be a good debut for the old girl.

My most recent "captain dumbass" episode was when I had removed the console to replace the shift boot and when I put it back on, I somehow got the wire that goes to the ashtray light between the mounting screw tab and the console. I even thought to mysely "that screw didn't go in as easily and it should have" but after I put it back together I didn't think about that. Of course, every time I turned on the lights, I blew the fuse. I was about three days before I finally figured it out.:stupid:
