Posted May 8, 200816 yr comment_246688 My friend's looking at a cheap 280z in the area, owner says all it needs is an floorpans, an AFM, and a new battery. The pictures look alright and we're going to check it out this weekend. I was pretty sure the AFM was compatible but another friend of mine told me they changed the AFM's every 3 years or so with the L28 series. Can anyone give me some insight on this? If the AFM doesn't work would I have to change other things in order to get the AFM to work on the car? Plan is to pick up the car and drive it home if possible. Thanks in advance. May 8, 200816 yr comment_246689 If that won't work I've got one off a '77 that I'm probably never going to use. If you think you're going to need it (and it will work...), PM me and we'll see what we can work out.Dave Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/28040-79-afm-compatible-with-a-76-car/#findComment-246689 Share on other sites
May 8, 200816 yr comment_246695 The 79 AFM will work in a 76 but you'd have to bridge the two wires that go to the fuel pump contact points in the AFM plug on your 76. Otherwise the car wouldn't run. 78 and up AFMs don't have those. Only an AFM from a 75-77 will work in a 76 without having to bridge those wires. Al's will plug right in and work from the get go.
