Smog Problem

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I am new to this group, so let me introduce myself, my name is Nick and I been working a ford for long arse time. Now, I am new to this 1977 Datsun 280z that I bought. The car was from Oregon in 2004, which I am in California. This became a big issue for me, I wanted the car to get on the road, but it has no emission, the previous owner tried to get it smog checked, which it failed. So I can't really get this car on the road until it smog checked. Should I sell it and get another Z, or you guys have some suggestions?

Thanks, Nick:smoke:

Why did it fail? Was it visual or tailpipe? Do you have any test results? If you don't, I think you can get an unofficial test (not reported to the state) to see where you're at. It can mean the difference on whether or not you're tagged as a gross polluter.

Also, what shape is the car in with respect to the body, interior, and drivetrain? Could you use that one as a parts car if you bought another?
