Overhead at a car show last weekend

Last summer I overheard one kid ask his friend to read the name of the car, because "you know I can't read" which is a very sad thing in this country.

All these responses are the result of individuals who may not have understood the intent of my post.

Period. That's it. Nothing about actually changing the name. Nothing about what their intent was for using a different brand name for marketing purposes. Nothing concerning how that brand name came about whether through acquisitions or dreamed up in the marketing department.

So far it seems Jackhammer was the only one who "got it".

I put a card in the windows that says in big letts, "1978 Datsun 280 Zed" and people will STILL ask me what kind of car it is! :mad: But then again, one guy yesterday called it "a rare King Cobra" whatever that is; I think he was comparing it to the Mustang II.

As it has turned out, Nissan has recovered nicely from whatever damage changing the name might have caused. It would take a detailed analysis of their books to see if things dipped...

As to the argument that they never should have used the name Datsun in the first place, having a war criminal with the name Nissan is a pretty powerful reason not to use the name Nissan. Even Porsche had to overcome that... Dr. Porsche spent a bit of time in prison for his involvement in WWII. His health went bad and he died shortly after being released. Porsche's involvement with Hitler still comes up to this day.

You mean that there was a Mr Nissan.....???!!! WOW. That's one that got left out of the history books. I guess he must be the guy that wrote his name in big letters on the top of your engine, huh?
