Hi Mike,

Is it just me or has the front page become very wide? I no longer can get the whole page on my screen. I have to scroll back and forth to see both sides. This seems to have started just this week. Maybe I can use this as an excuse to get a new 17" moniter(?). I will admit I'm pretty much of a computer stupid. Any info would be good. I appreciate this site more than any other.

Thanks, Mike Gard

I haven't noticed anything recently, but the real issue is your resolution Mike, not the size of your screen.

If you go into display settings, you can increase your resolution, which allows more to fit on the screen. It will however, make everything appear smaller. You can find pretty good deals on larger monitors at sites like:

http://www.newegg.com

http://www.tigerdirect.com

http://www.meritline.com

etc.

I asked about that in this thread last Sunday. Mike (next post) says the changes have no effect on the front page but it has been wider since then. I've had to collapse the all the boxes on the left except for 'Birthdays Today' and all the boxes on the right except for 'Who's Online' to keep from having to scroll from side to side.

Stephen and Mike,

First, I must admit that I rarely go to the front page of the site, my bookmark takes me directly to the "New since last visit" results. But I checked the other day when Stephen reported this, and also again today and everything looks the same as always to me.

Here's a thought, what operating system, browser and browser version are you two gentlemen using?

I've got the same problem here, I just colapse everything that I don't normally pay attention to and it allows me to barely see (Who's online and my personal block on the upper left.

Started after the shut down the other day. I run windows XP but it's in mikes area that's causing the issue. Not killing me but a little anoying sometimes. I don't even recal what a browser is. but the OS is xp. unless you mean the IE6 Internet Explorer

Still love the site though.

Dave.

Found it.

Mike, the problem is that the neither the dropdown menu for the Module Jump in the Main Menu box, the avatar in the User's Login box, nor the Google ads at the bottom of the middle column are re-sizable narrower. On smaller screens that can force the right-hand column off the screen and require horizontal scrolling.

I suspect the root culprit is the Google ads, since they are by far the widest element on the page. Were they a recent addition?

Any any case, users with less than 1152 pixels across now have to scroll horizontally on the main page. Collapsing the Main Menu and User's Login helps, but still isn't enough to always make it fit. That means users with the ever-popular 1024x768 screen res are affected. Probably a lot of people, really.
