How can I tell if the AC in my 280z is factory original? I have the original window sticker, but it doesn't list AC. However, the climate control panel has the "ac" setting, which was only supposed to come on factory equipped models. can anyone post apicture of their engine bay, specifically the cooling compressor and lines

It simpler than that and you don't really need a picture. If you have the AC setting on your control panel, and 4 fan speeds, your car has factory AC. Under the hood you'll find machine crimped refrigerant lines rather than universal fit lines with barbed ends, a Hitachi compressor rather than a Sankyo/Sanden SD508 compressor, and the fast idle control system with the white (actually probably kind of yellow by now) vacuum bottle, the two magnet valves, etc.

Stephen, I know it's impossible to get the original A/C units. What would you recommend as an aftermarket part? I live in FL and summer is finally here and my Z is my DD. I'd like to have A/C if possible.

Which car? The 260 or the 280ZX? All ZXs have AC. 260Zs...not so much. Does the one in question have existing AC with missing or bad components or are you talking about installing a complete system?

I need it in the 260z, it has an L28et though. Not sure how I'd go about making it work. My 260z has a fan and I can turn it on, so I dunno. I'm guessing I'm going to have to ask on hybridz later, it's blocked here while I'm at work.

I need the A/C, dates won't like the Z without A/C.
