May 24, 200816 yr comment_248715 There have been some interesting points made throughout this entire thread, both for the good and bad sides of this (or any) "outrageous" modification of a Z car. But let us not forget that there are several "accepted" modifications that have been done that dramatically change the way a Z looks. The Ferrari GTO kit and the Pantera rear deck lid both come instantly to mind (I imagine there are others out there besides convertibles that I'm not thinking of). I'm not against either of the mods I just mentioned, that should be known; however I wonder what the Ferrari owners think of the re bodied Z car; perhaps about the same as some feel about the re-chassising of the Z car at the head of this thread. May 25, 200816 yr comment_248728 Man...where do I start since I feel compelled to clear up some apparent mis-conceptions about my earlier comments. First of all... I have no issues with anyone who wants to take their low vin numbered 240 and turn it into a steam powered locomotive. It is theirs and they should be able to do what they want to it. Next... I am not enraged... justifiably or otherwise. Never was. The sole reason I commented can be explained like this: Let's say I am a fine silver and turquoise jewelry maker. I have a store with the jewelry I have made in it. Interested customers are in the store and now you and three of your friends walk into the store and you start making comments among yourselves but loud enough for all to hear how you feel silver is cheap looking and that you prefer the classic look of fine gold etc. . What do you think is going to happen? Well... I can tell you... your opinion influenced those non sales. It is my contention that while some of the discussion is helpful... for the most part it negatively affects those of us(not to mention the person in the subject ad) who have time and money invested in our projects whether it's a bone stock restoration or a resto/mod. It should go without saying but I'll say it anyway...we all want the Z to appreciate in value. The Z community is not huge and when we cavalierly toss our opinions and comments around in these forums it's just like in the jewelry store. We are not in the store but in a bar down the street so your example doesn't make sense. If you don't like what is said in here move on, this is a "Classic" Z car forum not 4x4weekenderfrog-giggin.com so people will comment on the avenue taken with a project like this This forum is so full of arrogant, soap box grandstanding, opinionated people, so much fun in here. May 25, 200816 yr comment_248733 No mis conceptions-just a bit of pulling another members legs(both yours and E's) with a silly/serious post. I don't see the sale of this car influencing the sales of stock or lightly modified Zs in any way. This is clearly not a car for someone looking to buy a Datsun/Nissan S30. The big money normally will go for the Historic cars, the early unmolested cars, early proper restorations, then program cars. Granting the power of the sale of this serious customization to affect the prices of anything but outer serious customizations is giving it too much pull. It is kind of like relating the sale of a matchbox 240Z to the sale of a Gold cup 240Z-they are related in the search engines, but I wouldn't expect a serious S30 enthusiast to be as involved in the purchase of either as I would a #2 or better car when looking for a Z. The sale of the car in Corvette Summer has not seriously changed the prices for that year 'vette through time, and it certianly got and continues to get more exposure than this car...I look at picking apart a car as helpful to a buyer-and the next seller-it helps the value of the cars because the quality bar gets raised, granted the profiteer with the newly painted rust bucket will lose-good! To me if a car can't stand on its own to those who are knowledgeable, the seller didn't do enough investigating or to prepare it for sale. If I see a Cubic Zirconia where a diamond should be, should I feel bad if I don't tell one of my friends who is looking at it?If you were going to buy a car and didn't know much about them-would you ask someone who did to look at the car with/for you...I would-I will agree that beating up a car with notable value should not the only side of its valuation, but when you have only a few pictures to go on is it better to point out the obvious issues, and leave out what looks good, but could be well shaped bondo over rust? Most people would rather err on the side of caution than speculate-though the proper road is to point out how nice it looks but what could be under it... A gas tank with a lint coating was challenged recently in another thread, the seller went back investigated, and cleared up the issue- no harm no foul! When selling a car I think most memebers want a good value for both sides of the transaction. I don't see how the sale of a single 4x4 with a Z body kit will affect the value of a real classic Z, and I think evaluating the cars as they go up for sale will serve only to raise the bar on serious well done Classic Zs by spreading the news of what to look for. When we pick apart a pretty car, we are helping the buyer know what he is buying, should we play fireworks display over a lesser car? This club is to share info and further the hobby. Prices will rise as the value of the cars gets known and exposure increases, both are a result of the enthusiast community and its members work. Should a buyer beware of...us? May 25, 200816 yr comment_248734 I sincerly hope that its a hoax....that its a photoshop job and not reality. If it is real, then it is a abhorant blasphamy that should be whiped off the earth. *calming down a bit now* Forgive me because I just saw the pic. If it is real, then justice would be a monster truck flatening it. May 25, 200816 yr comment_248735 Guys, I am talking about picking apart a car relative to what the seller says and what his/her pictures show-not whether or not a car is my cup of tea! I won't berate someone elses choices except when they contradict the words. I think this guy is giving a fair description of the car in question-and while not my cup of tea-it is well done, different and well detailed... It is his car-the only person he has to make happy with it is him-and the next owner! I would like to see this in a show-with the electric version a member is making! Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/28210-i-am-speechless/?&page=3#findComment-248735 Share on other sites
May 25, 200816 yr comment_248736 I thought I might have overreacted by saying it should be flattened. I looked at all the pics again. Its a blasphemy. It should be crushed, melted and recycled into the big scheme of things. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/28210-i-am-speechless/?&page=3#findComment-248736 Share on other sites
May 25, 200816 yr comment_248739 Will, we're on the same page and you make some excellant points. It just so happened I voiced my opinion (there's that word again) that I have held for some time now on this truely original 4x4 Whatever.I have seen where threads have taken some ugly turns and it is counter productive for us all. As long as we have each others back...life in Z land will be good. I am over and out on this one...Goodnight.:knockedou Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/28210-i-am-speechless/?&page=3#findComment-248739 Share on other sites
May 25, 200816 yr comment_248751 I think it looks surprisingly good. Why "surprisingly"?. Well,...... When I first brought "Precious" home, I considered customising the rear end, front end, convertibleising it etc. but NEVER did I think of doing what has been done to this Zed. Turning it into a 4x4 shows IMAGINATION and if the photos are true to the actual car, it's a first class piece of engineering.Having done a hell of a lot of 4x4 driving, I can't help but wonder how it would perform in a 4x4 situation, given the narrowness of the car. O.K. so THIS car is unlikely to ever see a dirt road but I just wonder about it's stability and general road handling.Rick.:devious::devious: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/28210-i-am-speechless/?&page=3#findComment-248751 Share on other sites
