Posted August 28, 200222 yr comment_14224 I'm having trouble with my 75 280z. Its been acting up and cant figure out whats wrong with it. Yesterday, I checked the AFM and It was not working. I opened it up and got it working. I got it started and idles but it bogs out. Today I tryed to turn it on and it would not start. I did not hear my fuel pump on and I checked the AFM again. I was not getting any power to it. I had my uncle crank the engine to see if i would get power to it. It got a little juice but didn't start. What could be wrong is my ECU out or my AFM. Please help I need my car to get to school and work. And if it is my ECU will any ECU work on the car. August 28, 200222 yr comment_14262 Sounds to me like something may be wrong in the AFM. Did you take the plastic cover off the potentiometer on the side and see if there is any corrosion in there? I believe the potentiometer( I think that's what they call it) controls a lot of the functions in the FI, as the AFM opens up it moves the arm across the contacts to signal the ECU. Be sure the arm is in contact and there is no corrosion present. Might not hurt to spray it down with some electrical contact cleaner and see what happens then. As far as the fuel pump goes, it should get the same voltage supply at all times, as I believe it is powered off the ignition switch. You may have a short in the wiring or a bad connection somewhere. There should be a relay on the kick panel on the passengers side for the fuel pump also. Hard to give a good clear answer since I no longer have my 75 280 or my Factory service manual. I'm just kinda guessing. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/2825-help-75-280z/#findComment-14262 Share on other sites
August 29, 200222 yr Author comment_14319 I want to know what gives the AFM its power. I was told that the AFM starts the fuel pump. If the AFM doesn't get power it will never start the pump. I did exchange the ignition going to see if that might be wrong. Thanks for the info.
