It's the desert, they won't rust away to nothing. They can afford to sit and let them appreciate. Condition 7 and better cars (which these Van Buren cars are not...they are worse) like in the other yard nearby can be sold for low $2000's now..........

As for pressing the zoning issue et al...this is perfectly valid, though a bit dodgy as mentioned. It's nothing I was not already thinking of, nor is it a tactic I have not considered when after purchasing a deteriorating house in an upscale neighborhood where I live. I'd have been doing the neighbornood a favor by buying the house and fixing it up.

Fun-in-my-z... I think you're just a bit defensive because you have had people complain about your parents place so it's a littl close to home for you. Bottom line, if zoning (or lack of permits, etc) does not allow it you ARE in violation of the law and should rightfully get in trouble. If you don't like hearing this...well tough. I speed, I get a ticket...I should have since I was breaking the law no matter what I think of that law right?

Now odds are that there's no restriction where you live on your 40ac. I guarantee there is where this lot is located!!

My town, Albany Ga, has a local ordinance that states residents are not allowed to have cars in their yard that do not run or are unlicensed. They are then cosidered "junk" cars and the owners are fined accordingly. No need to gang up on Carl. All you have to do is check the local zoning laws. Like Texasz said if they are in violation they suffer the consequences. Cause and effect is a terrible thing at times. By the way, Texasz, I was born in Dallas Texas myself. I wish I still lived there. "Don't mess with Texas"

Yes, Danglybanger, it does tick off a certain segment of Albany that typically keep cars in the yard as ornaments from their past or up on blocks to fix up when they win the lottery or something. My personal favorite is a old beetle that someone turned into a grill. South Ga is a very interesting place. I am not from here as you can tell. I view it a s free entertainment.

Hah, at least I get the feeling in the Georgia climate they'll at least rust away and disappear someday, solving that problem... in CA desert cars stick around forever (and are actually very, very cool when found)

Imagine the joy they would bring were they restored, to almost any degree. Imagine the money that would be put back into the economy with all that has to be done on them, especially when considering the multiplier factor.

It does seem a bit extreme to effectively force anybody to sell their legally owned property. It also seems that a few hundred dollars in the absolute sense shouldn't sink a large-scale project- where you might end up with some finished cars and some parts for sale too- in the long-term perspective. I wish somebody had the resources to buy up all of these cars and warehouse them for future consideration. I mean imagine what a $10 or $20 grand would buy out there- from multiple sources.

It's certainly something I'm considering for my "retirement" days. A substantial garage with a seriously dedicated clientele, with lifts, rotisserie, dip tanks, blasting, paint booth the whole shebang.

What's legal and what's moral can be two different things. Look up eminent domain abuse to see what could happen to you. "Legally". If one wants want to enforce the zoning laws for the purpose they were intended, fine. If one is looking for a way to take someones property for ones own greedy purpose then I think a re-examination of motives and thinking about how one would feel if the table were turned is in order.
