Guys and Gals, Boys and Girls, Children of all ages, this is really cool. You can own an original Datsun 240z Glove Box signed by Mr. K and help contribute to building the Datsun museum at the same time! What Datsun Museum you ask?

..snipped...... to establish a museum to house and tell the story of Datsun in the US.

Hi Bob:

The story of Datsun in the USA is a great story to tell.

Earlier - I should have also said that "part" of the story of Datsun in the USA can be found in the book that John B. Rae wrote, "NISSAN/DATSUN - A History of Nissan Motors Corporation in U.S.A., 1960-1980".

The hope is that the DHM will contain information that expands greatly upon Mr. Rae's book, and exhibits the powerful combination of an entrepreneurial spirit in a free market, with responsive corporate structures.

Not only was Mr. K and Datsun successful here, they helped make over a thousand Dealers successful beyond their dreams, while providing tens of thousands of good paying jobs for others.

In these days of bashing Large Corporations and International Trade, this is a story that needs more public attention.

FWIW,

Carl B.

Thanks for posting the info, Carl. It certainly answers many questions one may ask. I can vouch for the complexity of what has been accomplished so far. A 501c3 is Internal Revenue Service lingo for "non-profit corporation" as many of you know. It takes over a year to process the application. A corporation must be established with published by-laws, officers, and a board of directors. This is all governed by law, I would imagine California corporate law, and provides for the corporation and it's benefactors a legal tax status.

Fred has been talking about this project for years. Every time I go to an annual ZCCA convention, Fred is talking about the project. I can imagine how fulfilling it must be to see the birth of the dream. Congrats to all the board, the officers, the Datsun Gang, and especially to Fred and Betty.

In the meantime - like Bob said - go to E-Bay and put your money down. It wil help fund the initial stage - and we'll be back at you when the massive fund raising starts ;-)

FWIW,

Carl B.

Carl, I am interested in seeing a Datsun/Nissan museum, but what will Nissan's involvement be? Will Nissan or the thousands of dealers across the US that have made a living by selling us Nissan products over the years provide financial support or are they just looking to the public to raise the funds to tell their story? How were other auto museums (like the Toyota USA Museum) funded? I'm not sure how many Datsun owners will be able to spend $300 on a sweater to help get this started. How something with a lower entry point like $10 or $20 to put your name on a plaque or a tile?

Good idea, they could set up a PayPal account to accept $$$, and you could donate to have your name and Z car (or other Datsun) VIN # put on a tile or something used in the building. Generates $$ as well as records the ownership of the vehicles! Would be kind of neat to go there are see all those names and VIN's on the floor tiles as you walk around the museum. Provides a reason to go visit and take your photo on "your" floor tile as well, which can help generate more $$$ in entry fees.

Now that the bidding is over I want to thank BobC for his hard work and congratulate myself for being the winner of the Mr. K autographed 240Z glove box door. I will probably actually put it on my car as I think these cars need to be driven... When I saw this thread I instantly knew that the autograph was authentic as I watched Mr. K autograph one of the numbered edition 300ZX cars at Surfside about 10 years back. I thought it looked pretty cool. I think there was only one other bidder which is sad... 4 of the 7 bids were mine trying to find the reserve. The last bid was mine again to put it to bed with less than a minute left in the auction.

Bob when you get that shipping price together let me know. Or I could just send you the auction price now and the shipping when you get the rechromed emblem. I usually pay within moments of auction end...

I have a really old Datsun hood emblem which I don't know what it came from. Perhaps I could donate that to the museum cause. I will take a picture of it and post it here...

Rob,

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! Fred Jordan was so excited when I told him the glove box had been sold. He and the "Datsun Gang" really appreciate your donation. It will help get the museum established.

Anyway, I just sent you the invoice with shipping. If the shipping is less, I'll charge you the exact amount I pay. If more, I'll eat the difference.

Thank you again...I'm sure you'll like the glove box, it looks great. It's been sitting in my office in its display case. So enjoy it on a wall or on your car!

I saw an ad for the Datsun Heritage Museum in the Summer 08 issue of Nissan Sport I received yesterday. It lists the website as wwwDHMuseum.com, but there doesn't seem to be anything Datsun related on that site. This thread has a link to the correct site in earlier posts (www.datsunheritagemuseum.com). The ad shows a couple of books signed by Mr. K that are available for donations of $50 or more. I tried calling the phone number listed to see if the books were still available, but I just got an answering machine that didn't mention anything about the museum, so I'm not sure if the phone number listed is correct or not. It looks like you also get your name on the museum wall now as part of the $300 or more sweater donation. I still think some kind of floor tile with your name on it for maybe $100 or less would be good and get more people to participate.

Mike, the number in the ad is Fred's. At the time that the ad was completed and the mag going to the printer, Fred did not have the new number yet so we ran with his personal home number. Leave a message and he will get back to you.

Also, talk to Fred about the tile idea. He is open to all suggestions.
