More HP on L28

Recommended Posts

I'm a newbie, just aquired a 240 and just bought a stock L28,N47 W/ triple Dellorto carbs. Before i put the L28 in i would like to add some HP to this motor but i really don't know what to do!! Go with a P90 Head? Mild racing cam? Ignition? Not looking to bore it out either. I'm not a street racer more of a Sunday driver. Any idea's would be appreciated!!

I increased the HP on my car by getting more compression and then good header and exhaust to get it all out.

I went from 123 rwhp on stock motor to 185 rwhp with those changes only. I used the same cam on both motors just in different heads. P79 to N42.

A intresting question for me too.

I going to use a L28 with a N42 Head a 284°Cam with triple set of 40Weber carbs. And a Hooker Header. but I dont have any Exhaust yet. What would you recomend? The Hooker ends in two lines, 2,5" each.

Easiest thing would be to Y it into one then take it out 2.5" the rest of the way.

Alot of people who are dropping in V8s would run it out as a true dual exhaust. Just takes a little more effort to get past everything.

If you are a Sunday driver, then leave the engine alone and spent the money on suspension and getting those old brakes rebuilt. No point going fast if you can't go around corners or stop.

It's all about head work. Take the head off, and take it to a experianced Nissan L series head shop (ask around and be prepared to ship). You will need to tell them what you want in terms of power and torque, what kind of driving you want to do.

Convert to electronic ignition, a header and new exhaust.

If I were you, I'd get the unit rebuilt as a whole, block and all.
