Now that my car is stripped, I'm stairing into the engine bay thinking, Hmmmm.

Not that I'm knocking the 350 swap, (God bless american muscle) but what about something like a late model nissan 3.5L, such as this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1853476676

Has anyone attempted a late model Nissan swap? Are the modification to the bay extensive?

There are so many "high tech" options for these motors, do any of you feel it's worth it?

What other engine suggestion/options, are out there aside from the American 8s?

I hope this is a viable topic, I would love to hear some feedback.

Personally I say stick with what you have and build on it. There are a myriad of engine, head, trans and rear combinations up until 1983 to keep you entertained without ever having to drill a hole. Everything basically bolts up. While many people are stuck on having to put an 8 in the car, I say go to town on what nissan provided.

While I love the way the 240 engine runs... I have wondered about putting a late model v6 in a 240 also. It is a compelling idea. The v6 is no doubt lighter, perhaps a one or two hundred pounds or so (just a guess). It is bigger 3 litre without modifying. If you ran the injection and a stock turbo setup 300 HP ,, 2200 lb car Hmmmmmm ... Could be a fun combination.. I wish there was more in the line of engine mods for the late engines. I like naturally aspirated engines. A v6 with three Webers would be a lot of fun , if you could get the right cams and compression. Probably cost a fortune,, but Still it is an idea worth thinking about.. If you were going to do it get one of the new engines from an Altima or Maxima... 3.5 litre..

The L series engines are dinamite. L24,L26,L28. The L28 here in Australia with quite extensive work is punching out between 330-380BHP a couple of people are quoting to have cracked 400BHP. That is bloody awesome comparing the weight of the vehicle and the standard 150BHP of a well tuned L24. These cars over here are racing turbo charged Porsches and beating them consistently. What more do you want...............other than an R34 GTR nothing............Go Zed.

It's just idle speculation... I can barely afford to put fuel in my car most of the time. More like an engineering puzzle than a real plan. Nothing to get excited about. I am fairly happy with my 150 hp. But what if........ you got this jet engine and.........

If we eliminated the firewall, moved the seats back a foot, maybe we could set that sucker!

I'm keeping it,

I baught it with a 4brl edelbrock carb, and its tuned nicely, but it's not enough for autocrossing. I need a more rapid response, as well as a very short throw with very responsive rearend.

So I should save the dough and throw it into this L28. Keep in mind I have ZERO experience with this motor. :ermm:

From my past experience.... Modifying your car for autocrossing is a double edge sword... Youcan certainly improve the performance of your car, but then they put you into a class with the formula fordsd and open wheel racers. You can be very fast , but they are still hard to beat with a car that out weighs them by at least two to one. I having a good time is your goal modify away. I f winning is your goal study the rules first. you can improve the performance while remaining leagally stock by balancing and fine tuning. Of course this is ,, like all speed not cheap. I am split between the two. I would love to get into racing, but I also love the cheap thrill of a car with a light flywheel, hot cam, and all the illeagle stuff I can afford. Unfortunately when I do this I have to compete almost always have to compete with someone that has a lot more money than I do. So while I have a ball trying, I don't have a chance in Hell of winning. Think before you spend.

Do you really think the 12 cyl would fit I could sit in the rear hatch..... Just kidding,,, Maybe

SMG- You raise a very valid point, one that may have slipped my mind until it was to late. I will aquire the rules of qualifying, and in what class. Yes, if I race this sucker I intend to Win, at least sometimes.

Winning is cool, having fun is great, but winning is Fun and Great!

Hi all,

I may be biased as I’ve gone this path for my 240z, but I think that the RB26DETT is one of the ultimate engines to put into a early zed.

Others argue that the L series can make lots of power, and it’s true, they can make decent power. But take into account the cost of building a stroked L series engine and were you end up after you have added EFI throttle bodies, management and the rest.

The late model design of the RB series of engines will be the pick and recommendation from me, you don’t need to go “all the way” as I have and choose the RB26DETT, other engines are available, in both atmo and turbo form, ranging from 2L to 3L. A very nice one would be the RB25DET for example.

AND you will always have the choice, (oh the choices, sometimes it complicates things!!) of putting forged pistons, better turbos, custom manifolds, larger injectors, more efficient intercooler, external wastegate, cams, cam gears, conrods, and so on.....

Anyway, all to their own!!!
