I'm restoring my 1971 240z. Well, the engine runs really good but every time i drive the car, it smells so bad it makes me wanna throw up. It smells like exhaust and it gets all over my clothes and by the time I get to work in the morning, I smell like a dirty ol' mechanic. I want to restore my interior but the smell from the car is holding me back because I dont want the upholstry smelling like exhaust. Any ideas on how to get rid of the smell? I also notice that it smokes alot from the exhaust tail pipe. Thanks

had this problem, look for leaks, exhaust leaks and body leaks under the car and seals. taillight gasket can pass gases also.

I had this problem and it annoyed me so much, my shirt smelled like exhaust after a 2 hour ride! a bad air/fuel mixture can increase the smell also. mine was having a different AFM and was running a bit more rich, but I didn't have time to solve it.

good luck.
