For $15,000 I'd expect something truly amazing. That car looks very nice, but $15,000???

Last year there was this rally nice 240 on ebay... It had all of the right stuff, for me anyway. 18,000 actual miles, aluminum flywheel, 3 webers, headers, Bright red, Panasports, the list goes on. Kind of like the car you dream about, and then wake up, and realize that you need another 10 grand to get there.... This car had a reserve of $17,500.00 and was a bargain..... And I am not bitter......not a bit ,,, just cause some clueless rich guy got a car to polish and look at and treasure, instead of drive like a bat out of hell, like it was made for, what do I care. If you just want to look at them get a picture, and let the true enthusiasts have the car.

I just do not know how some one can bid so much on a car without physically inspecting it? For that price the car better be perfect !!!! I would like to drive it once and make sure everyting

is there and works to perfection. Last year I saw a 1970 240Z original tires only thing the rear carpet showed a little faid and they were asking $15,000 and that was at a classic car dealership on consigment and that car was previously stored in a heated an a/c garage.

thats what sold that car because some fool that has to much money thinks that car has an original 27k miles and there is no way. not without documentation.

i dont see how they get away with letting someone say that without documenting it.

the point of all this is you can have a really nice Z car depending on how much money you want to spend.

if it were me id buy the 2k or 3k 71's i posted here before that 15k on on ebay.

The value of an item is that value that that item will bring.

Sounds like an oxymoron but it isn't, it is an ages old truism regarding selling anything.

One of the advices given out by many old timer Z owners, Carl Beck amongst them, is to get the BEST car you can for your money, EVEN if it means paying out bigger bucks for it.

Many of us opt for the $2-3k car and then invest 3-5k more into it before it starts looking like what we want. We forget to value our own time, that may add another 2-3k to the value of the car. Now you are talking a vehicle that's purportedly worth between $7k to 11k (adding in your labor and parts). If you add in anything else, then the price just goes up and up.

The guys at Zhome recommend buying a car that's worth more (because of it's condition / maintenance etc) and then having less to repair, improve, change etc. Which is cheaper, the $3k vehicle that ends up needing $12k in work / parts / paint / time or the one that is bought at $15k or more and you can drive it the same day you got it? It all depends on what you value and what you enjoy.

Look at it in another manner.

How much is YOUR car worth now? I mean, how much would it take for YOU to PART with it? What if someone said, OK!

Let them ask whatever they want. If you pay close attention to the cars on Ebay you'll notice more often than not, they don't sell at the high prices. I've watched many 240's get relisted that had winning bids the first time they were listed. Which leads me to believe that either people bid and bail, sellers lie about the condition or there is a lot of shilling (illegal bidding to raise the price). I have a co-worker that sells a lot on Ebay, he told me that there are two things that happen when it comes to autos and parts..... shilling and bailing.

Now, to the greater question.... Would I pay $15G's for a 240? 70-71? yes 72? maybe, 73, doubtful. I would inspect it, take it to a mechanic and have him run through it with a fine tooth comb and make sure I didn't have to put anything into it other than maintaining it for a long time. Why? because you can not get a new car of that caliber for that price. Rest assured for $15G's I would want showroom original quality.

Of course, I'd have to have the money to buy it.

Better to spend 15K on this early 240 than to buy the 280 advertised for 20K, don't ya think??
