Posted June 23, 200816 yr comment_251662 My dad and I have 4 Datsuns b/t the two of us. We have built 3 engines over the past 3 months and have had the hardest time ever finding exterior engine bolts, washers, nuts etc. I am not referring to the silver Zinc either. There are plenty of those at Ace Hardware. I am referring to the grade 10.9 yellow zinc/cad plating.Reddat wants $100 for the whole L series set of bolts in the original finish which doesn't even include oil pan bolts. Those are still available from Nissan. His shipping costs are absolutely outrageous and not stated in the auction description. I believe I have found a source for all these with a very large minimum order. If so, I will be selling entire L series bolt kit and individual packages like front timing cover, oil pump, therm housing etc at much more reasonable prices. Would there be any interest in this????Thanks,Brandon Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/28516-gauging-interest-in-engine-bolts/ Share on other sites
June 23, 200816 yr comment_251663 Hi Brandon!I assume you are talking about selling bolts that have the same coating/look, in the correct sizes, but not OEM?Reddat has a massive quantity of Datsun Parts, but he thinks he is sitting on a goldmine. His prices are higher (to varying degrees) on parts, and he never lists shipping prices. Shipping prices in my experiences with him (never bought from him yet, but he always has something I want) are not obscene, but definately not a deal by any means. He does sell quite a bit of stuff nonetheless. June 23, 200816 yr Author comment_251665 Indeed. But there is no way the bolts he has are original. He doesn't send them in Nissan packaging and they do not appear to be OEM when comparing them. The prices of his items are not my issue. It's the shipping. $12 for 4 bolts. Insanity. Especially when it says $2.10 from USPS. I understand marking up shipping for your troubles. But he obviously sends this stuff out all the time so there are no "troubles" Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/28516-gauging-interest-in-engine-bolts/#findComment-251665 Share on other sites
June 23, 200816 yr comment_251668 Jeezus! $12 for 4 bolts? He's just ripping people off with that. Now if it were 20 bolts, I could understand $12. Yeah, that is a major scam he's got going there. So he made an extra $10 off of you!Edit: ~What kind of deal do you think you can come up with? June 23, 200816 yr comment_251669 I am interested, prices and time lines of availability would be helpful. I get a kick out of Reddat.... I always wonder who buys from him. You are a brave man talking on this project. I have items that I want to sell but I just don't want to deal with the hassle that come from the whinners that are out there. I wanted to get into selling remanufactured stuff like ZG over fenders, JDM type front spoiler and Works over fenders...but I just don't want to deal the whinners.... That is the reason for calling you a brave man. June 23, 200816 yr Author comment_251670 I have found that full and fair disclosure take care of 90% of that. I have sold numerous items on eBay and never even get questions. My stuff sells and I have 100% perfect feedback. My comments are a tribute to how I sell. I list everything. The good, the bad and the ugly.I am unsure as to specific prices yet. Probably a 20-30% discount to the eBay bolts with "reasonable" shipping costs. If I go ahead with this, I will have enough leftover after our builds to sell b/t 30-50 entire L series 10.9 grade bolt kits with a few days on the lead time. June 23, 200816 yr comment_251671 Alternate sources are always welcome, and a complete package as you describe should be in demand. I would be interested in a few sets. I don't think you would be saddled with unsold inventory, but Reddat might. June 23, 200816 yr comment_251679 I bought a set of keys from Reddat 1 month ago, he charged me $10 for shipping! One freaking set of keys! I have yet to receive feedback from him and will not buy from him again.I may be interested in a set of bolts.
