Gauging interest in engine bolts

Hi Brandon:

Great idea.

But which is it? "Yellow Zinc" or "Cad. Plated with yellow chromate treatment?(quite a difference in price and performance).

Are you talking about finding/buying Japanese Metric (JIS) sizes?

Would the exact shape and type of the bolt heads be identical to OEM used in each case?

Exactly how many individual bolts and or nuts are you talking about ?

If they were exact matches to the originals - I'd think you could sell hundreds of sets over time. If they are not exact matches to the originals - the market might be somewhat smaller.

FWIW,

Carl B.

These would most likely not be identical but close. No attached lock washers for instance. Although the lock washers and/or standard washers would be included. They would simply be a convenient way to restore an entire engine w.out using the NAPA or Ace bolts.

They are 10.9 grade which are not cad plated to my knowledge. Was referring to the style of plating that most closely resembles factory (gold'ish/green color).

I have been told that 10.9 is perfect for automotive use. I am still doing research though before I move forward.

I purchased an item from Reddat as well. Charged $7.00 shipping, but only paid $1.52. Never received feedback from him, but I left positive feedback. Its too bad he does have things interesting items sometimes.

I wont purchase from him again either...even if he agrees to lower his shipping prices. First we bid and then we bicker on shipping...no thank you.

I'd buy a set too.

for 2 complete sets.

Kudos to you for taking on something that is definately needed to counter the dreaded "Reddats" that are preying on the Z community.

To them it is not about the cars----it is about the money.

I too have been stung by his scheme of overpriced shipping and once bitten forever shy. I would use worn fasteners before I would buy another godamn thing from him.

Let me know when and where to send the remittance.

Thanks!

Unfortunately they sent me silver zinc not yellow zinc. Even at that rate, I don't feel that they look close enough to factory style for my standards. Of course I am as anal as they come when it comes to this stuff. Many might be fine with them though. They don't have the recessed head or the attached lock washers so.......

I feel that they are most likely the same as many of the ones that Reddat sells or are similar. I have seen a number of his which don't have the recessed head. I am confident his oil pan bolts are not OEM as Nissan's have fixed lock washers. His do not.

I do not want to pursue this further as I found a supplier that has a very limited number of all the Nissan factory bolts in the original finish. I am buying a few of those sets for my dad and I to have for our current and future cars.

If anyone wants to move forward, you can PM me and I will give you all the details with the order number.
