Any experience with the 2.7 L ?

Recommended Posts

I'd put my money in an L28 to start with. No reason whatsoever to handicap yourself or your Z by starting out several CCs short of an L28. Match the head from your L24, do some head work, get bigger SUs (2-inch), add a header, a better distributor and an electric fan.

Why? Clearly, there's a market for people that don't want to swap out their 2.4L but want more power. The 2.7L is a way to do that. He pointed out that he couldn't carry the extra engine around as he gets transferred periodically.

While I understand the logic, I think there's too many that advise to "swap it for an L28". It's not within everyone's capability to do it - I know I can't, but I know I can swap a head out pretty easily (I've done it). Again, there's a market and value for a builder that can provide a boost in HP to those that can only swap out a head.

Classic Motorsports showed this with the 240Z they had Sunbelt work on. 200HP (assuming this is crank HP) is pretty darn good for mainly headwork. That's the way I will certainly go as I am limited in funds and ability.

CoastGuard - you ever contact Sunbelt or Rebello on this project?

The project has stalled a bit... I transferred yet again, and I've a bunch of other things going on so this has taken a back seat, but I'm still very interested in it.

A 2.8 / 3.0 may be an option in the future (read: retired from military and stable in one location) but is impractical right now as previously stated.

Code3Z - I sent you a PM... I'm in your neck of the woods for the rest of the week.
