Posted June 26, 200816 yr comment_251945 Hello Folks,I decided to treat the Z to a new pair of SU's from Z Therapy... With summer finally here I thought I'd take a road trip on down to Salem, OR. and pick the carbs up myself.I have a couple of questions, and I thought I ask for opinions...First off does anyone know if Z Therapy have a garage service to where I could have them swap the carbs out while I'm down there? If not can anyone suggest a reliable, reputable garage that would be able to do the swap while I was in Salem... thought I would save myself the core, and shipping cost, and spend it on the gas for the tripthe other question is would this be a good idea?? Should I just send away for them and have my mechanic install them? My fear is if something should malfunction related to the new carbs, or something else... I live in Seattle, WA so it's not like were talking about driving half way across the country... but it sure does feel like it when your stuck on the side of the road with a car that won't run.Beside as the commercial goes "Driving up I-5 in a clean shiny old school Z, with a new set of SU's...... Priceless :)"What do you guy's think... thanks Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/28547-z-therapy-carb-swap/ Share on other sites
June 26, 200816 yr comment_251951 Have you tried calling or emailing Ztherapy to see if they offer installation service for an extra fee? Bruce Palmer from Ztherapy is a regular on this site so he may respond directly to this thread. Also, have you already ordered a set of their carbs? I just picked up a set at the Canby show recently and they needed about a two week lead time to build mine (I have a very early car, so not sure if that is always the case, but another thing you should check on). I haven't had a chance to install mine yet, but they include an installation video as part of the price and can provide some assistance over the phone I believe if you have problems. -Mike Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/28547-z-therapy-carb-swap/#findComment-251951 Share on other sites
June 26, 200816 yr Author comment_251958 I'll probably call them tomorrow to see what type of lead time they need... and if they have a garage service to do an install.I got most of the tools that I would need to do the swap.... just worried about the seized or broken bolt, or not being able to get the carbs synch correctly to where I could drive it the machanics to get it tuned properly Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/28547-z-therapy-carb-swap/#findComment-251958 Share on other sites
June 26, 200816 yr comment_251991 Although we (ZTherapy) don't have a "garage service" for installing carbs for customers, Steve Epperly (the owner) is very helpful to those willing to tackle their own install while at the shop. June 26, 200816 yr comment_251997 I think it would be a fun trip for you. When you come down send a PM to me, I'd be glad to meet you at the shop and perhaps go on a mini-cruise around the Oregon back country after you have the new carbs installed. Give yourself a few days in Salem just to make sure you have time to swap them out at the shop. Oh, and make sure to order them in advance. I know Steve has a backlog of carbs to build... June 26, 200816 yr comment_252019 I have a set of Z Therapy carbs on my 71Z and it was the best thing I ever did for it. On the old carbs the throttle shaft was sucking air so bad that I could UNISYN all I wanted and never be happy with the results. I watched the video, put the carbs on and never looked back. June 26, 200816 yr comment_252022 You will find Steve to be a great person and is vary helpful. In my opinion if you are driving a Z with SUs you should know how to tune them your self. They are simple , simple , simple. You cant find a better source than ZT and Steve. Do contact him first though , don't just show up. If you just go to the Shop and he has taken the day off. You have just waisted the trip.Gary Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/28547-z-therapy-carb-swap/#findComment-252022 Share on other sites
June 27, 200816 yr comment_252136 Yeah Steve Epperly @ Ztherapy is great!! I got a rebuild kit for my Hitachi/SU's from him and the car ran much better, and then I drove down there last weekend and he helped me get my chokes working right. Really nice guy and he's very knowledgeable about all things Datsun. Some cool race cars at his shop too along with LOTS of parts.Greg Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/28547-z-therapy-carb-swap/#findComment-252136 Share on other sites
June 30, 200816 yr Author comment_252373 Hey Guy's Thanks for all the suggestions... I did call the folks at ZTherapy and they have a lead time of about 7 to 14 day's.. And they offered the use of their facilities to swap out the carbs there if I wanted to... They said it take about a half day to do the swap... Still haven't decided if I'll head down to pick the up, or just have them sent up... I'll keep ya all posted...
