Reupholster Carpet and Driver Seat

What would be the best way to go about Reupholstering the carpet and driver's seat?

The driver's seat isn't that bad; just the bottom portion (part you sit on) is torn up a bit. Do they sell just the foam and cover, which is secured with clamps under the seat? Am i better off just going to an upholstery guy?

I heard they sell carpet kits that are precut for the 280; which sounds easy enough that I can do that one weekend. A friend suggested I put some sound dampening material underneath the carpet to reduce road noise; i thought it was a good idea.

Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

As lonetreesteve said, you can get kits a lot of places. If you're not comfortable doing the work (upholstery's an art, even with a kit), get a kit, pull the seats, and take them to a shop. They'll charge ya labor, but they'll do the job right. You might want to get kits for both seats so the colors match better. Sound deadener under the floor is great. It reduces heat as well. Just make sure you don't put it down permanently. You're going to want to be able to look at the floorboards regularly to check for the dreaded rust. I've used adhesive backed Velcro strips along the edges of the underlayment to hold it in place while in use. Makes it easy to pull up for inspections. Use the normal methods for holding the carpeting down.
